I am looking at a Swedish Mauser with bases for a claw scope mount. Wondering if weaver bases could be attached to the top of those bases or could they be removed and replaced with weaver bases. I don't know anything about those claw bases and don't know how they are attached to the rifle. Thanks in advance .

They can be attached by a few ways... soldered on, screwed on, or by a dovetail... I have seen those 3 ways...

If you were to post a few quality pictures that would help...

Those were almost certainly soldered on. I have removed some before and its very simple. Guntech is 100% correct, but those Swedish Mauser sporters were fairly "low tech builds".

You could find a scope with the claw mounts on it and fit it to the bases that are on the rifle or buy new manufactured claw mounts and have them fitted or do it your self .this requires patience and know how.either way it's not cheap.these are solder on not hard to remove then you would have to drill and tap for weaver type mount but as previous post it would be like sportering a 41 johnson

The claw mounts are quite common on these old Swedish sporters though, but I agree that they are a beautiful thing. I did recently fit rings on an existing mount, but you wouldn't want to pay someone to do this on a cheap M96 sporter. With parts and labor probably a 1000$ job I'd guess. And your left with a 600$ sporter.....at most.

Thanks for all the answers. I was planning to buy the rifle at Intersurplus but I have decided to go a different route, great sale price, $265 +tax/shipping. Thanks again
