Anyone remember way back when you couldn't find clay pigeons? summer 2007

What was the reason for that shortage? Should one stock up like everything else?

Thanks...

A very wet and cold spring followed by drought for the rest of the summer. Terrible conditions for clay pigeon hatchlings.

LOL.

I don't think there was a shortage in southern Ontario. I remember that year well as it relates to my shooting history. Lawry's was doing brisk business. Even better, shells were particularly cheap that year. You could buy flats of Federal Top Guns for $40/flat including tax. Good times...

Maybe this is my selective and imperfect memory but I seem to recall a skit on CBC about Dutch Hockey Puck Disease. Around 50 years ago. There was footage of trees with misshapen pucks and black fungus and Bobby Orr came on shaking his head saying I don't think I can maintain last year's scoring due to the Elm hockey puck blight.
Ring a bell to anyone?

I recall there was a shortage of pitch to make the clay pigeons. The shortage never became a crisis. There was talk of finding alternative components but I'm really not sure of details.
I so recall the price of clays did increase somewhat.

I thought the clay pigeon shortage happened because the cat litter people tried to corner the market and keep all the clay for themselves. I also thought it was at the start of the cat video craze which of course became a thing as soon as it was possible to put the things online and they thought cats would be taking over every home with single people and families alike turning into crazy cat hoarding people. Fortunately, download times in the late 80s were so slow then that the craze never really got started and the litter people had to return the supply to normal buyers like skeet shooters and the crayon industry.
