Clean before first use?

Strip it and clean it. You should give the bore a good scrubbing with Kroil and JB Bore Cleaner to get the parkerizing off the inside surface. I like my bores bright and shiney. The outside parkerizing you should treat with oil prior to shooting, allowing several hours for it to soak into the surface, before wiping dry. If your gun has a heat shield, be sure to treat the barrel with oil under the heat shield. This should be repeated with each cleaning session, particularly if you use any products like Brake Clean which removes all oil. I like to put a thin coat of very light grease on the surfaces of the bolt, the bolt slide, and the slide arms where wear becomes apparent over time. A hint for dealing with the shell stops; a thin smear of grease will help hold them in the receiver while you replace the trigger group, having them continually fall out while you try to push in the trigger group can lead to swearing, but a padded vise is nice if you have one. I also make a point of removing the plastic from the slide tube, put grease on the retaining nut threads and light coat of oil on the tube under the plastic furniture. Rust appears here readily on both parkerized and marine-coat guns.

I always clean my new firearms before use. Even if they are just 'new to me' and used. I always feel better knowing all the parts are properly lubricated and a quick visual inspection of all parts to be in working order gives me peace of mind. Just the way Dad taught me. The way his Dad taught him too.

Sorry slight hijack, but I'm also looking to get a 590A1 SPX, where did you get yours from? Best price I see right now is $800.

Thanks!

sorry to hijack the thread but this is sort of on topic. do you guys have any good video links for stripping and cleaning a shotgun before first use? preferably for a norinco hp9. i searched youtube but it kept bringing up mostly hp computer stuff.

I can't imagine getting a new firearm armand not cleaning and inspecting it. There may be a factory flaw or an object inside of it. Protect your investment and yourself, disassemble, clean and lube it first. The gun will function better as well.

It only takes one scrap of metal in the barrel and BOOM! no more fun :(

and Ive found such obstructions in barrels of used guns, and packing material in new guns. For the time it takes, you get piece of mind and worry free shooting. Just look at all the threads about the dessicant packets in the norc m-4's. the "more anhialating firepower" they speak of in the manual will be the fingers of the first guy who pulls it out of the box, pops in a loaded mag and wakes up on the firing line with everyone standing over him
