Cleaners for just carBon

What cleaners are there for just clearing out carbon? Not the copper.

Carb/injector cleaner from Canadian Tire or that GM stuff ? never used it, it might harm the barrel??...I just use Wipe-out

Butches bore shine. Thats the best I have found so far.

And janitorial strength amonia is excellent for copper. Jerry gave out that tip a few years ago. took me a while to try it but it really works.

I use GMC carbon cleaner, sometimes mixed with Mystery oil but usually straight. Ted Gaillard got me going on it, and if he likes it that's good enough for me. Looks like Butch's bore shine, smells like BBS. Hell, sometimes I even use BBS.

I doubt that any of it is good for you.

I swab out the barrel with #9 after I'm done with any of the harsher cleaners.

I found a Hoppes No 9 air freshener! I love the smell of the solvent!!!

Perhaps it brings me back to the days of making models in my bedroom as a kid--- paint thiner jar open for hours listening to Queen! I lost a few brain cells but they were the weak ones.

I use Hoppes and find that it works well. Probably better stuff out there but Hoppes is my go to.

For Copper I use Sweets 7.62

Personally I use a mixture of Shooters Choice and Kroil (Penetrating oil). Great for carbon fouling and will clean copper.

I will almost hazard a guess that if any of you guys looked at the throat of your rifles you will have a carbon ring even with all the wonderful cleaners out there. Those carbon rings are HARD as hell and take a lot more than just a brush and solvents.

Those carbon rings can and will do funny things to the accuracy of your rifle.

That is all I use now for the times I do clean the bore.

Disected a few 6.5 barrels when they died and didn't see any evidence of carbon in the throat or first couple of inches of rifling.

Wipeout Bore Cleaner Spray Foam, YEP. I was having trouble with carbon in a slew of piston driven ar types and the cleaning guy started using wipeout and it worked better than anything else that was tried. They were left for 24 hours wiped out with a few dry patches and clean as they needed to be. Its now the only thing I use for carbon, as its the fastest and gives me the best results. If you have some, try it, would love to hear others results.
