Ok, guys there is alot of talk about piston rifles being cleaner lately, but in your experience, what is the cleanest shooting black or blackish rifle you have fired (not necessarily piston operated)? What was surprisingly dirty?

Only rifles you have actually fired and cleaned please, I.E if you haven't cleaned a FAL or AR, etc. I don't wanna hear about it.

For me cleanest shooting (not that I have put alot of rounds through it yet) was the M14S. I found the 180B I owned was quite a clean shooter as well.

The dirtiest which surprised me was the Swiss Arms CG.

I hear the G3/ hk91 can be dirtier then an AR, any truth to that?
What about the AK?

I can't claim a pile of experience on different black rifles. I'm quite familiar with vanilla DI AR's. That's my point of reference, I guess.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how clean the M14S is in comparison to a DI system.

Cleanest for me would be ummmmm VZ58. 300 rds, mud, twigs, grass in it and it was pretty clean... Piston, Bolt Face and around the chamber would have some carbon build up. But other then that be pretty clean and I mean like no looks like I mixed sand with oil and poured it all over.

Dirtiest, 9mm AR15... 50rds 9mm is like shooting 200 rds of 223 out of a DI AR.

Guess I haven't shot it, but I did just read a really good article about how the HK416 was super clean after 500 rounds because there is no lube required. The bolt is covered in a silicon base which requires no lubing. Wish I had fired it, but I didn't know there was one around for hte chance.

yep it did shazam* and boy I wish I could take mine (C1A1)to the range again I tell you I wouldn't complain about it ever again .My M14s isn't bad at all but I never really shot it much my CZ858 I blasted 700rds through it as fast as I could it was dirty but it wanted to keep on shooting .I had 10 mags with guys loading them as fast as they could by the end I had to hold onto the mag the foreend was too hot

For all the dirty ammo I shot in a run-of-the mill SKS, I find that rifle remarkably clean and easy to clean, the easiest in that caliber being the VZ-58, on a par with the Rashid, even with its adjustable direct impingement gas system derived from the Hakim. Perhaps due to the open venting system of these rifles, it stays cleaner than most.
With modern, clean and non-corrosive ammo, these designs are very simple to maintain.
PP.

Now my sks was quite the opposite. I didn't even realize piston rifles were suppose to be clean(er) shooting because of that rife. Same with my cz 858, but not as bad as the sks.

anyone have experience with the TAVOR yet?

It doesn't matter as long as the rifle works everytime you pull the trigger, keep it properly lubed any rifle will run until you are out of ammo. I typically shoot over 1200 rounds per month with my AR I clean it once or twice a year, just lube it after each session and maybe swab the barrel with a bore snake. Cleanliness has nothing to do with function, lubrication is the key.

I guess my VZ58 is fairly clean, but to be honest, I think it's probably faster for me to clean my AR15, even though it is dirtier. The AR is pretty much a wipe down job, the VZ58 has all those bitty trigger parts and nooks and crannies in the reciever that I'm always worried about because of the corrosive ammo around.
