Cleaning a dark bore?

You might not want to clean it too much
My k-98 has a dark bore and I got it fairly clean but noticed my accuracy had gone away
Did the same thing with a Lee Enfield and lost accuracy too
I have an svt-40 with a dark bore too and didn’t do any intense cleaning on it and it’s still shoots good so I leave it as is

No I did not. I put a soft ear plug in the chamber end, then squirted it in from the muzzle when it started foaming out the muzzle a bit I plugged the muzzle with another ear plug and let it it for 24 hours (make sure the barrel is close to horizontal. I repeated this 3 times using patches with hoppes no.9 in between

I'm not sure about using a plug on the one end Matt. But if it works for ya...that's great!
I think it might just build up pressure and not let the foam expand all the way to the breech.
I found that after a couple of applications, you get to know just how much to squirt into the barrel.
(Approx 2 sec) Start at the muzzle end, squirt for 1-2 sec. and stop, in about 1 second after... the foam will reach the breech and just start coming out.
If you miss judge and squirt till the foam reaches the breech it will keep expanding and make a mess. If this happens I have stuck my finger against the breech end
sealing it, causing any more expanding to now come out the muzzle end. Good idea to have some news paper down to catch any dips too.

I recently purchased a Czech Mauser and the bore was nasty. I ran at least 50 patches through that thing and they kept on coming back dirty. Rifling looked good but I didn’t know why the bore was so dark, so I shot 40 rounds through it, cleaned it and now the bore is a mirror. Over the years the powder in your bore may have dried up making it hard to get rid of it all. Run some rounds through it and then give it a good scrub!
