What is the best way to clean gas system on PE90?
Please provide as much details as possible as my owner manual is not very helpful.

What part of the gas system? Do you have the supplied, standard cleaning kit? If so, attach the largest brush to the torque handle and scrub away at the gas tube and piston. Be sure to get any residue off the gas valve regulator, that may require a knife to chip it off delicately. I've got a Swiss soldiers pocket knife which has just the tool for small built up carbon deposits. I like to get the piston and gas tube wet with CLP before scrubbing to loosen the crud. Then just wipe the dirt and excess residue off and you're set.

The cleaning kit that comes with the gun has an "L" shaped scraper for cleaning out the gas valve and scraping off the piston. The large steel brush is for cleaning out the gas cylinder.
The gas valve is the important part, the rest only really needs to get cleaned if there is a large build up of carbon.

I dunk the end of the gas piston in bore solvent and scrape it off with the pointed tool on the Swiss soldier's knife. Anywhere that sells Swiss Army knives can get them, might have them in stock if you're lucky. It has an aluminum handle instead of the red plastic one.

The pointed tool is also handy for getting the carbon outside of the gas plug. What I do is wrap some paper towel around the end of a rod, wipe the inside around with bore solvent and then scrape off any awkward bits with the pointed tool on the knife.

The steel the gun is made from is harder than the blade steel of the knife, so it shouldn't be a problem. You might scratch the finish inside the gas plug, but who cares.

The real problem I have is that the gas plug sticks to the end of the gas piston, and the manual doesn't really explain how to disassemble it when it gets stuck. I just squirt some CLP on it and work it until it comes loose if that happens.

reading the "owners manuel". you will be sure not to screw up the gun. they made the gun, i think they know how to clean it. trust the manuel.

If they are sticking, #### the rifle and lock the action to the rear. Then remove the valve. The piston will then be free when you remove the cocking handle.
This usually results after lots of shooting or if the gun is left for a period after firing.

Roughly how many rounds should you shoot through before the rifle requires that kind of clean-up ?

Thanks for the comments. I do not have a swiss army knife. Anything I can substitute it with? I did not find manual very helpful or maybe I am just slow learner. I think I need step by step instructions for dummies.

Soli,

How many rounds you shoot is up to you.

One of the guys in our Service Rifle club bought his Black Special, cleaned the barrel and started shooting. After about 2+ years he told me he should clean the gas system. He then asked for a reminder on how to take it apart. He said he cleaned the barrel but not the gas system as it would just keep working. He thinks about 2000+ rounds.
The gas system gets very dirty and takes a long time to get realy clean after a lot of shooting but will run when extreamly dirty. I have fired over 600+ rounds through my SG552 before cleaning or lubing and it never stopped once. I usually clean the gas system on my classic green every few hundred rounds.

I think Redleg can elaborate more as they have range guns that get run long and hard.

The manual tells you how to disassemble it, not much on cleaning.
yes....you disassemble and you clean the parts like any other rifle. whats so hard about cleaning a rifle?

you use the cleaning kit that you got with the rifle ...if there was one. you take the gas brush and put it on the rod and brush and do all the other little things that will make your rifle love you....
