We were out at the range and my boy was hammering away with his new mosin. Once at home as is usual he left the rifle in the shop even though I told him to clean it right away because we were using corrosive ammo. After a pile of effort on my part I got it cleaned up. Does anyone have any simple faster methods of cleaning this stuff.

Thanks

Water down the barrel with a funnel, a huge blast of wd40 until it drips, and a quick swab until no more liquid comes out. Clean properly in the morning.

I take out the bolt, break it down.
Drop the whole bolt into a pot of hot water.
Then squirt hot water down the bore, run a brush through the bore, another squirt of hot water to flush it out.
Wipe the bolt down with a rag.
Then swap the water out of the pot for Eds Red, dump the whole bolt in that, squirt eds red down the bore.
Wipe all the eds red off the bolt, swab the receiver with eds red.
Reassemble and good to go!

Oh yeah and then pour the eds red back in the can for next time/re-use.

Hoppes 9 and its a bolt action so a couple of quick pull through with Hoppes, brush twice, Hoppes 9, dry then light oil.
Wipe/brush some Hoppes 9 around the receiver and bolt, dry and oil. Your beer won't even get warm by the time your done.

The Boy pay for it himself? I'd just leave it so he learns daddy is not going to follow him around looking after his stuff. A thin layer of rust on his toy will likely do that.
The ammonia in Windex does nothing to the salts. It's the water content in it that helps clean out the salts.
Flushing the barrel(and gas system if there is one) with plain hot tap water or a kettle full of nearly but not quite boiling water is all you need. Needs to be flushed not squirted though. Then you clean as per normal.

If its NOT the young fella's - I wouldn't let him shoot it again until he's prepared to clean it immediately after returning from the range.
