Here is a question, in the past I have always broken in a new rifle with running a patch through the barrel after every shot. Has anyone ever used a bore snake instead of a patch wonder if it would do the job.
I'm not one who believes in bore snakes since the same crap is pulled through the rifle every time.
There can be metallic particles left over from manufacturing so I wouldn't want to get those on a bore snake.
I usually clean every 5 shots to 25 then every 10 shots to 50.
After that ai let the rifle tell me when to clean it once the groups start opening up.
On my Savage 10BA that is every 500 rounds or so.
Use a good one piece cleaning rod with a well fitting bore guide so that none of the cleaning fluids enter the action.
I just put the first 50 rounds through a brand new 6.5mm Bartlein barrel on Monday. Once I got home I ran 3 Hoppes soaked patches then made 5 passes with a nylon brush then 1 more soaked patch then 3 dry patches. Thats it, the bore is clean and dry.
