I was wondering if there is any special cleaning procedure after using tracer ammo. I was using some the other day and after pouring boiling water down the bore and using bore solvent there is some red fouling in the grooves. How do I get rid of this? I have used tracer ammo before and have never noticed this.

Boiling water is for corrosive primers. Stop up the muzzle, fill the barrel with solvent and leave it there for an hour or two. Gives the solvent time to work. Then, after safely disposing of the sludge(no dumping it down a drain), clean the way you always do.

I shoot tracers in my ar15's

I just shoot a mag or 2 of reg ammo then put them away NO cleaning NO problems

Im useing 1970's LC 54 grn tracers

That red stuff is probably just the paint used to mark them as tracers, clean as normal, maybe a few more strokes of the brush but nothing to worry about.
