CLEANING AN SKS

where can i get norinco non corrosive rather than buying the czech stuff?
wherever i look i only find the czech corrosive.

My guess is that the retailers first want to get rid of all the Czech stuff, which I happen to like, and then get all the non-corrosive in (which I like best).

Thanks to the price of surp Czech ammo we can shoot the SKS like a 22! But it is dirty.I would strongly suggest stripping the bolt down after shooting. On a recent trip we shot off a couple hundred rnds.(try doing that with that with 30-30 ammo) and when I started to clean the bolt I noticed the firing pin wasn't rattling around as usual. We had no prob with it at the range so there was no real reason to suspect anything. Anyways,on tearing down the bolt, I noticed a little ball of primer? metal about the size of a dull pencil point stuck in the channel with the f/p! I had sprayed cleaner down the f/p slot and soaked it but you can see that if there is a solid piece of metal in there, spraying and soaking won't help.So who's to say what would have happened the next time it was shot. A little grease on the pin helps getting it out the next time. After the fist time it's easy!

Use windex to clean your SKS but be aware that if you leave it overnight in the windex it can stain even stainless steal. I've got some ugly stains on the top of my "stainless steel" bolt assembly from leaving er in windex overnight. Hot soapy water is recamended after windexing!

MAybe I'm just lucky but I've never used anything more than patches with solvent on my norc. I have nearly 1000 rounds through it and although I always completely field strip my rifle and clean it within ten minutes of the last round going through. The bore looks like new. The gas tube, which I've found an easy way of cleaning using doubled up patches on my cleaning rod for a snug fit, is super clean. The gun looks new from top to bottom. Maybe I'm just lucky.

gone to the range a couple of times since i made this post and after every session with the sks i take it appart and wash everything with warm water and soap. then i use break free once all the water is dried off. im happy with this proceedure as i have yet to see a spot of rust anywhere.

thanks for all the helpfull info guys :D

I would NOT reccomend using "ammonia" or windex for cleaning an SKS. The ammonia ( actually Ammonium Hydroxide will eat your blueing off your rifle as it is a HIGHLY corrosive base, actually several dozen times more corrosive than your berdan primed soot from those Czech surplus M43's.
Get some proper gun, cleaner: gun treatment or easy off and so on will work fine. Anyone who claims they can neutralize a (salt/weak base) with a stronger one is kidding themselves.
