Cleaning and maintaining Press

If its rusty you might have to strip it down and scrub the parts using a very fine steel wool. According to Dillon penetrating oils ( WD40 ) should not be used.
As for normal cleaning I use solvent ( Hoppe's#9) lightly with a soft bristle toothbrush or Q-tips in the hard to reach places and afterwards a light oiling with sewing machine oil.
Ideally the press should be covered when not in use...

If my XL650 was really dirty I would take it outside and hose it down with brake cleaner. Brake cleaner usually requires no scrubbing.
Then i would blow it off with compressed air, then let it dry, maybe wipe it off.
After that I would bring it in and give it a good lubricating with a 0W30 or
10W30 synthetic oil($6 a liter at Wallymart).
I lubricate my Dillon 650 with 0W30 synthetic and it works slick!!

bearing grease on the pivot pins. Do not use spray type
penetrating lube such as WD40 or Break Free as you
run the risk of contaminating powder and primers".
I like the ideas of previous posters (Brake cleaner, synthetic oil)....tks.. I find alcohol and Rem-oil are two helpful cleaners for crud (not rust). I also find that a thin film works best and attracts less crud on the shaft, etc...Cheers!
