Cleaning before depriming

I don't bother to deprime pistol cases before wet tumbling. They generally dry out pretty quickly and it is way too much extra work for no benefit.

You don't necessarily have to deprime bottleneck rifle cases before wet tumbling, but you do need to allow for a much longer drying time.

The only reason I deprime before I wet tumble is so the primer pocket can dry out good. With the primer still in the case it can hold moisture for quite a while, and I dont want to risk loading wet primer pockets.

Good point but in my case I use a dehydrator to dry the brass.

I deprime before SS tumble both pistol and rifle. I picked up a separate press ($25) setup with the lee universal deprimer. Keeps my dies and main press cleaner. I also don't worry if i bend a decapping pin as they $4 for the lee universal and keep a few spares on hand.

tumble clean and load, I do not deprime first and tumble, don't want some media get stuck in the primer pocket when loading.

Pistol I just run through stainless steel pins and then load. Rifle I deprime first then load. I spend enough time just sorting brass I don’t want/need to add a extra step in there.

I dry tumble, but I usually have trapped bits of walnut fall out along with the primer, makes a mess. I'm going to test a small amount of deprimed rifle, see how bad media gets stuck in it. I would rather poke the media from the primer pocket away from the reloading bench, if the pockets don't get too jammed up.
