Cleaning Cosmoline(grease) Off DA Grizzly 12.5 Shotgun

Ordered the Dominion Arms Grizzly 12.5 shotgun from Canada Ammo. Love it and came in 3 days after ordering it! There's cosmoline all over the gun, inside and out though. I'm figuring I have to do a pretty thorough cleaning to get all this stuff off including the trigger assembly.

What has everyone else done to get this stuff off and what do you use to lube everything? I have a bottle of that G96 stuff. Could I use that to lube parts? I'm new at this gun stuff.

I'm thinking of soaking all the parts in some kind of solution and rinsing it off with water but not sure if wiping it down and letting it air dry would damage any of the small metal parts. Thanks for any help!
 
Theres no magic answer use literally what ever you want, g96, break kleen, hoppes, water, simple green
It dosnt matter theyll all do the trick
 
For the smaller parts, boil some water and place the piece in. let it cool and the cosmoline will rise to the top and harden. so you scoop up the cosmoline and your part should be clean. use a pot that you never plan to use again for cooking.
 
Have guys at work that use brake cleaner for everything, even wash their hands with it. Its cleans great, but really hard on you.
 
Simplest solution is Simple Green!! It cuts through cosmoline and is biodegradable, and therefore easy on your skin! If you have a utility sink you're laughing, otherwise get a blue tote and spray away, rinse with water, air hose dry and lube all parts with the g96. Give a rub down after lubing, parts don't need to be wet.

I have bought 4 of these from can ammo and have never had one with grease or cosmoline on them. I have received them with a little bit of oil on them and just wiped them clean with a rag. This must be a new way they are shipping them.
 
Lobster pot method for me ! I boiled up my giant lobster pot with a gas ring propane burner , then stripped my sks , put all the wood parts away then poured boiling water all over the metal bits , the good thing about this is that all the Cosmo floats away across the old bricks I had the parts on . Be careful with the stock and wood bits , it can hurt the finish . After the water I hose all the metal pieces off with brake clean , more to disperse any left over water . Then I give it a quick wipe down with some oil and it's done

I did not use any chemicals. I used a handheld portable steam blaster. Just disassemble and blast it with steam and reaches little nooks and crannies. Whole thing took about 5 minutes.
 
I use paint thinner for both metal and wood. Place the disassembled parts & barrel in a fiberglass blueing tank with a gallon of paint thinner or varsal. Works like a charm.

Worked well - purchased a couple of 2 litre generic 'Blue Glass Cleaner' from WalMart cheap. Disassembled rifle, put metal parts in a heavy garbage bag filled with the glass cleaner cut with a little boiling water. Sprayed all the wood parts seperatley. Let sit for a better part of an hour then wiped everything away with a handful of corse plastic scrubbers. Finished drying everything with a combination of shop towels and compressed air.

Repeated process for a couple of the more gunked up parts.
