Balistol, spray liberaly, let it sit for a bit, use a nylon brush with a patch over it to clean and dry them out inside, wipe outside with oily rag. I do that after every use however.
Brake cleaner works good but evaporates really fast and isn't so healthy. Mineral spirits or any other solvent works well. Gun cleaning stuff is good but too expensive for this kind of thing in my book.
Alcohol works well on some lubes as well.
Brake clean and q tips to clean, and I have an old aerosol can of outers oil that I apply inside and out. A little inside spread with a q tip and a little sprayed on a cloth for the outside. I usually do before and after each reloading session on my fl dies since I use water based Lee lube. If using other non water based lubes you don't need to clean every time in most cases. But so long as they're oiled they won't rust.
I give my dies a regular cleaning (4 times annually) with Hoppes Solvent #9 and wipe it with clean dry patches. One die I clean after every use is the Larry Willis Collet Die. It requires Imperial Wax Lube every time a brass case is place through it. This die is used for only one cartridge, however good for multiple belted magnum cartridges.
