Cleaning 'glue'?? new DA Socom 18 question

Hey guys,
I read through these pages looking to see if I could find anyone who's posted this before- with no luck.
I got my Socom 18 this week- looks great but there is what looks like a glue on both sides of the stock I can't seem to clean off. I don't want to scratch it- just wanted to see if anyone had come across that before and had any tips.

Is it dried preservative or oil? If it's oil or grease Simple green should cut through it.... aggressive solvents may not react well with the plastic stock?
You could also try a bit of heat from a hot air gun or hair dryer and then scrape it off. Next time you are in a hardware store that sells plastic laminate grab a handful of the sample cards.....great scrappers and the price is right!
 
Mine has the same, but honestly the stock needs some love: it will be my 3rd that gets the sand/file sharp edges down/paint treatment. I'm going to go with OD green this time, but there's also Tan and Satin black available from Krylon. It's worth it to get rid of the sharp edges. Use a Scotchbright pad on the stock and mask off the buttplate and sling points. Whole process takes 30 min.

i used fast orange. the hand cleaner. i used that stuff all the time. learned the trick in the army. you can clean the whole rifle that way. apply amount of fast orange to rifle parts, massage gently :p run under hot water to pull every once of dirty what-ever from the rifle.

the trick is hot water so it heats up the metal and what ever water you don't get off with a cloth will evaporate from the rifle, just make sure you get all the fast orange off. then when its dry i apply a light coat of clp. works great to get that packing oil / grease off.
 
I just took some extra fine steel wool to it and it is gone and the stock still looks good, I think it is some kind of funky locktite.
