Just wondering how everyone else cleans their pump or lever 22s. It requires a significant tear down to clean these rifles from breech to muzzle. I've been using a standard aluminum cleaning rod, going from muzzle to breech very carefully. I'm not real comfortable with this, and worry about damaging the crown. I know that some people love bore snakes, and some people feel that Satan has put them on this earth to temp us into sin. What about the Otis pull through system? I want to invest in something, one thing, to regularly clean this rifle properly. Right now I'm considering 3 options.

1. A boresnake for quick cleaning. Disassemble rifle every few months and give it a good scrubbing including a breech to muzzle cleaning with my standard alum rod.
2. A quality carbon fiber rod, suck it up, and just carefully clean from muzzle to breech. Tear down once or twice a year.
3. The Otis pull through system. Tear down once or twice a year.

Opinions or suggestions? What are you guys using? Thanks!

I have a Golden Boy and I seem to be tearing it down every 2-3000 rounds for a really good cleaning. Other than that I just take a little piece of paper towel and wipe off whatever residue is built up in the receiver after every couple hundred rounds, maybe apply a drop of lube on the bolt "rails".

I use a Tipton carbon fiber cleaning rod from breech to muzzle during the takedown, and run a boresnake through the barrel a couple times every 1000-1500 rounds. I haven't had a chance to use the Otis setup yet, so I can't comment on that.

I think that I've decided on a patch worm pull through. It's essentially a nylon cord with an almost bore sized button on the end. Jab it through a clean patch, or felt button, and pull it through. I like it over the Otis because it's nylon and cloth, nothing else wiggling around in your bore.

There's a commercial version available, that does multiple calibers. However with our dollar it ends up being a lot of cash for what it is. There are instructions on another, rimfire based, forum on how to make your own using trimmer line. I quickly tried last night and even my weak attempt with cheap line seemed to clean well, it just wasn't durable. I think I'll try with quality line for a temporary solution and hope our dollar rises a bit so I can invest in the real deal.

If anyone is interested in the system just google "pacthworm"
