Hey guys what is the best way to clean a Marlin lever gun. Should I degrease and oil the action ? Use bore cleaner inside and out I have one that needs a serious overall cleaning ?
Any advice on specific tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

Clean the barrel and wipe it down. Every so often it's good to break it down and clean out the action. Using minimal lube, it stays pretty clean. I like using a thin coat of grease. Gunslick graphite grease is one of my favs. :D

open the action half way then remove the screw holding the lever.
pull the lever out
now you should be able to pull the bolt out. make sure you catch the ejector.
assembly is the exact opposite

Pilot,
Open the action halfway.
Remove the screw that forms the lever's pivot point.
Pull the lever out. Pull the bolt to the rear; you may have to depress the tip of the hammer.
Look into the action from the side as you do this because the ejector will be left behind. It fits in a slot in the action and the little raised bump on it goes into a hole in the side of the receiver. (It will be obvious when you do it.)
If the ejector doesn't just drop out, reach in and remove it. Now you can clean the chamber and bolt raceway, as well as the bolt and ejector. I also like to use a very thin coat of grease.
To reassemble, install the ejector in its slot (open end forward) and wiggle the bolt in from the rear. There is a slot in the left side which rides over the extractor.
Push the bolt halfway home, install the lever at about 45 degrees, and insert the pivot screw. You're done.
It takes way longer to describe it than to do it. I can pop the bolt out of a Marlin and reassemble it in about 30 seconds or so. The first time can be a bit frustrating, but once learned, it's by far the best way to clean the bore. Hope this helps.

To add to Kilo Charlie's excellent description and advice.. I have several Marlins and give them healthy douches of G 96 with a spray can and tube; both for cleaning and lube purposes. And the only other thing is make sure you have the right sized flat screw driver to take the lever off. If you don't, go to crappy tire or where ever and get it;)
