Cleaning media experiment – and results! Looks like a winner and its PLASTIC!

Not sure if it would work, but for the static issue in a tumbler you could try throwing a dryer sheet in there to see if it absorbs the static.

Great idea with the pellets, I'll have to pick some up when I am down in Edmonton. Is there a reduction of dust when dumping from the tumbler into a bucket? Or is it the same as when you tumble with walnut, etc.

I think I'll have to try it as well
Wish I had read this last week , just came back from Edmonton
On a side note the dryer sheets will clean regular media
And you can use the ones coming out of the drier
 
Also - as a side note -

I found that if I add 1/4 cup of water to the tumbler (just enough to make them damp) with a few drops of dish soap.... it cleans really really fast!
 
I bought some on Friday. No problems. The lady behind the counter knew exactly what I was describing. Tonight, I just built my new reloading bench and setup my tumbler with the new media. Tomorrow night I think I'll start reloading.

Hmmm. Are you using a vibrating tumbler, or a rotating one?

I tried this also in my vibrating tumbler. Unfortunately, it stopped the circulation of the tumbling media and brass, and did not clean the brass much.

I'm not sure why I'm getting a different result, but I would try it with a small amount of media first.

I've rinsed the pellets and have them spread out to dry, and I'm sure they'll be fine afterwards, so no great loss.

I'm using a vibrating tumbler.... and I had that problem with the water too... wound up pouring it out just till the pellets were damp....

Thats what my cheap little frankford tumbler seems to like.

Also - I used 3 bags in my tumbler....

Has anyone tried using Bedrocks hard pellets on medium size bottle neck rifle cases, such as 30-06? If they don't plug up inside the case, I'll definitely get a few bags. I'm tired of the lizzard litter and corncob stuf as well.

Well, sounds like we're using the same tumbler. I suspect I had too much detergent and too much water. I had 1.5 lbs of pellets in the tumbler.

As soon as I get a bigger wire strainer, I'll give it another try.

Ya, I made that mistake the first time too....

I just loosened the lid screw a few turns and poured 95% of the water out into the sink - build in strainer!

It won't polish the cases super bright, but it does clean the residue off the brass really good.... and its pretty easy to clean up and leaves no residue on the brass

Gave the plastic pellets from Bedrock a try with good results. Used one pound in my small Lyman bowl with 50 .357 brass. The once-fired brass came out looking very sparkly (as was expected).

Next were 100 dirty, water stained range brass in .223 & .204 (in the same batch of pellets). I quit tumbling after 2 hrs as I could see a lot of very clean brass through the lid. One thing I did find is that small caliber shouldered brass cartridges will trap the pellets inside as well as in the primer pocket if you've already deprimed. No biggie, I used a dental pick to clean them out fairly quickly.

Overall I would rate the media as being very good for this purpose. The dirtier brass cleans up far quicker in my tumbler than either corn-cob or walnut shell and there is no dust! Static does build up so a dryer sheet may be in order. As mentioned earlier a strainer, some dish soap and water cleans this stuff right up. I elected to dry mine on a large cookie sheet in a low temp (170F) oven with the door open for 10" after sitting overnight in the strainer.

The lady commented that she couldn't believe that all of a sudden people were buying the pellets from all over Canada and even some from the US. She said in the last week they have completely sold out of them what would usually take 2 or 3 years to sell. Well I said I know why and told here. She said they will have more stock in about 2 weeks. I put in some 30-06 so we will see how long it takes to clean them.

If it was the older lady that works there - I told her when I made the first buy that if these worked I'd let everyone know...

Guess she thought I was bull####ting! lol
 
I found some plastic pellets to try out :)

Free too, my favourite price to pay for anything!!

If I can, I will get some extra to help out some of the people here who are waiting for it! But no promises as it isnt mine, and I have to ask.

Well, I imagine some brasso in these pellets would do it - but that is just a educated guess.... have no blackened brass on hand

Maybe some one that is a CSSA or NFA rep in the area should see if the owner would mind doing a little free advertising. The fact she is from the more gun friendly part of Canada (than where I live in Quebec) She might be willing to put a sticker on her door from the CSSA or NFA. Considering the fact Canadian gunnutz’s made her a fare amount of money in these hard times.

I'm not too sure that would work, The store caters mostly to women who make their own jewellery and is filled with all kinds of beading and such. When I went in I was the only male in the place.

I don't think this is a place that would be willing to support our cause in such a manner. I'm just glad they are friendly to the idea.
