Cleaning my New M14s

So I picked up my Cosmoline laden M14 from the post office today.

I was going to try and sneak the stock into the dishwasher later this evening when the better half has passed out on the couch.

Can I do the same with the disassembled barreled action. If so, does anyone have a link to a "how to" to tear down the M14? I am a total newb to the Semi Auto centerfire and would like make sure I don't fcuk anything up too badly.

Do I need to worry about getting water in the gas system?

It is still sitting in it's box in the garage so I have not taken it out to even take a look at it yet.

Simple Green is your friend that stuff works great on getting rid of that comso...

Just as a side note:

I have made, with the help of 45APCKING and Lazerus2000, a DVD with a WHOLE bunch of info on JUST the M-14 from 2 of the "Wet Coast Support Group" meetings that I have been to (Props got out to TOM for hosting and Larry for sharring your wisdom ). From inspection on a brand new rifle to disassembly of the trigger group and everything in between. I have made a rough copy to send to Tom and Larry for finally input and any chages that need to be made. So, stay tuned as when I get a master copy it will be avalible to everybody. Not sure on the price just yet but I won't be charging to make a profit but just to cover my costs...

get a spray bottle and fill it with 1/3 hot water and 2/3 ammonia. This will take all the cosmo and oil off the gun. don't need to "dish wash".

I used 'Release all' from Cdn Tire...No corrosive, eco happy degreaser that I use on my fleet of dirt and trials bikes. Works great!

Brake cleaner. Dries instantly and works like a hot damned.

Only put the stock in the dishwasher if you're ready to refinish it. Works very well if that's your plan. It will be complete devoid of oil and finish when it comes out. (not a bad plan for Chinese 'hardwood")
