Hi Guys my first pistol NP22 9MM picked up last night
sorry for the newb question but so much stuff on the market
what actually works for these semi autos ?
its right out of the box and pretty stiff on the slide
it needs a good cleaning and lube I think, as any of my long guns got before shooting for the first time
just wondering what anybody would recommend
so I start off with a good routine & product for cleaning and lubing it

In all seriousness, go to your local Canadian Tire and grab a litre of Mobile One 0W30 for lube.
Hoppes #9 to clean the bore and wipe away any powder fouling.

I recently switched to G96... Spray it on, let is soak a bit, scrub spots with toothbrush if needed blast with compressed air, and wipe down. Done.

I still use Hoppe's #9 if the bore is really gunked up...

Just by a regular cleaning kit with brushes, etc and a brass plated rod so it doesn't ruin the rifling, some pistol patches, some rem-oil on hand to wipe down after cleaning and to prevent rust, some hoppes gun oil, and some hoppes solvent to get the really tough grit out. Also, shop rags come in really handy to just wipe down the entire gun. Oh, and Q-tips are a must for hard to reach places. You might want to watch a 'how to' youtube video to freshen up your skills on cleaning too. Hope that helps. Cheers.

I use G96 for wiping the gun down with a rag or patch, Shooter's Choice solvent for the bore, and Militec oil for the frame rails out of a little oiler bottle when I'm at the range.

Ed's Red Bore Cleaner - Look it up on Google - Cheapest than dirt DIY - highly effective for bore cleaning.

1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.

1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1

1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS
#64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or
equivalent, (aka "Varsol")

1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.

(Optional up to 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, OK to
substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)

Lots of good advice here already for cleaning / lube product. For cleaning, I use a Simple Green type of product almost exclusively (actually MEC brand bicycle drive train cleaner, it's cheap), as it is not nearly as noxious as everything else, degreases exceptionally well, and leaves no residue. CLP for lube. EDIT: If you use WD40 for cleaning (def. don't use it for lube), make sure to degrease it after, otherwise the WD40 will just dilute whatever lube you put on it, reducing its effectiveness.

The stiffness will loosen up as the pistol breaks in. You can speed up the break-in process by degreasing the entire pistol and hand-cycling and dry-firing it repeatedly. This will accelerate wear on the bearing surfaces. Of course, it's a lot more fun to just shoot it. :) After cycling it dry, make sure you do a detail strip and clean it well before lubing it for range use.

I really really recommend that you keep it clean for the first 500 rounds (break-in period), and then run it dirty until you start to get malfunctions. Then you'll actually have some idea of how much fouling it can tolerate before it's a problem. Then, clean it however much you want. :)

Cleaning:
- 99% Isopropyl alcool for general cleaning.
- Hoppes #9 for barrel cleaning.
- Dish soap for plastic parts (Grips, etc..)

Lubing:
- Slide glide on the rail.
- Breakfree CLP in mechanism and for general lubbing/protection.

Check these out for those hard to reach places, unlike Q-tips the don't shed and they are reusable as you can both blot them out on shop towel and wash them.
