cleaning ....new semi what to use

I just mixed up some Ed's Red, minus the acetone and lanolin, and it seems to be doing the trick. Ballistol is also good for nitro fouling, plus 10 to 20 percent ballistol mixed with water is great for corrosive cleanup.

For lube I just use a synthetic wheel bearing grease for the major load bearing surfaces. Simple, and a $10 tube will last years. Ballistol for trigger groups and such. No function problems.

I'm never buying expensive commercial gun cleaners/lubes again

Check these out for those hard to reach places, unlike Q-tips the don't shed and they are reusable as you can both blot them out on shop towel and wash them.

Yeah those are good... I almost never use q tips as they always seem to snag on something and leave bits of themselves on every sharp corner...

Compressed air is my favorite gun cleaning tool. It is such a time saver. Gets in every nook and cranny, and gets all the excess oil out of places you cant get too. All you need is a small compressor, and blow gun, and you're good to go.

G96 for general cleaning; Breakfree CLP for heavier lubrication [pistols, usually]; white lithium grease for heavy-duty lubrication [semi-auto rifles, usually]. It ain't rocket science.

A lot depends on where you live. Here in Alberta it's normally pretty dry. Humid places on the coast and around the Great Lakes might want to be a little more rigorous about cleaning and protecting...
