cleaning out a primer hole

If you are talking about the flash hole and tumbling media, any picky-pointy thing that is handy will work.
If you are talking about cleaning the primer pocket, I don't bother.

I've never found a dirty primer hole..... between firing the primer and the decapping rod going through pushing the fired primer out the hole is pretty clean....:D

I do clean the primer pockets with a little tool that fits in my forster case trimmer. It just scrapes the carbon out and does nothing to the brass.

I use 4 different tools on flash holes.
One is a flash hole uniformer
One is a super Q tip, steel wool on a used match stick.
One is a primer pocket uniformer
And last is a dental pick that's for media stuck in a flash hole after tumbling sized cases.

here is a pic.

Good luck

Ok;
The flash hole uniformer is a Sinclair model, but Lyman, and RCBS have similar tools available. It is used to remove the burr from the inside of the flash hole caused by the flash hole being punched, I think all N. American brass are done this way, and if I'm not mistaken Norma(maybe Lapua) is the only one who drills their flash holes.
The super Q-tip (my pet name) is nothing more than a piece of fine steel wool wound on to the end of a used match stick, it's great for cleaning regular primer residue out of the primer pockets, a couple of twist is usually all you need.
The primer pocket uniformer is used for uniforming the depth of you primer pockets. This like the flash hole reamer are a accuracy optimizing thing. The uniformer is also great for primer residue, but prolonged use in this role will most likely dull the cutter teeth. Lyman, makes one of these I know, mine is a Sinclair model.
The Dental pick is my new preferance to punching out nasty pieces of tumbler media that sometimes get jammed in the flash holes when you tumble de-capped and re sized cases. A small piece of mechanics wire or even a long push pin will work as well, the dental pick is nice cause you know when it falls on the floor.

I usually don't clean them. When I decide I want to...I hook up a small wire brush in my Dremel. I got a bit of Toolman Tim in my family.

Me too. Only I unscrew the wire brush from the handle and chuck it in the cordless drill.

Very fast.
