Cleaning patch size for .50 cal?

What is the recommended size for a cleaning patch for my .50 inline? Last year I was having trouble cutting pastches for use, as they either jammed in the bore or were so small they litterally got pushed ahead of the ram.

Yes folks, I am a big BP newb. Spit patching was a pain in the a$$.

2.5' X 2.5" for .50cal

a 28 guage gives about .55 bore diameter- the next step down would be the .410 - you may be able to compress the patch that much to make it work- the closest i have is a 58 cal, and that uses a 20 guage mop

Really depends on the size of your jag or patch holder, and the rod itself. I cut 1.5" x 1.5" for .45 handgun.
