I recently read on another forum that a certain cleaning product permanently stained the finish of a "Duty Coated" finish (whatever that is?). Is there any cleaning product to avoid that might damage the Polycoat finish on a CZ Shadow?

I can vouch that Ed's Red doesn't touch the stuff. I've used it quite a bit without any sign of anything other than cleaning.

I do remove the rubber hand grips though. The acetone in Ed's Red attacks that rubbery compound pretty much right away. But it hasn't bothered the front sight's fiber at all.

A couple of times when I was lazy or in a hurry I've also blasted out the inside around the action with brake cleaner. And that's gotten all over the outside and not caused a lick of an issue on the Polycoat. So that's another which is OK.

However it DOES totally strip any oil. That's why it's used after all. So it's important to oil the whole gun afterwards. As a result even when I'm in a rush or lazy I tend now to use a squeeze bottle to suck up some Ed's and then squirt it down through the action and then lightly blast it out with compressed air so it leaves that touch of ATF as a general oil and corrosion protection.
