The cleaning rod I first got when I got my first HG (GSG 1911) was hanging up on a spot in the GSG barrel today..

I know I have had a hard time fitting patches down through it in the past and had to cut them much smaller. But I could always get the nylon bristle brush down though it.

1/2 down it looks like the barrel might be kind of notched up :(. I don't know if I have done this in the past with the brass rod(should I be using a brass rod?) or if it is from shooting.

I am wondering what type of rod I should be using in the barrel. If brass is bad, where I can get a good kit online?

I had the GSG out this weekend. I have 2000 rounds though it now. Should I worry much about the barrel? It was hitting on target for as well as I can aim anyways.

Thanks

Could be a lead build-up..I had that happen in a Ruger Single Six which wasn't cleaned very good by a previous owner. The cleaning patch jammed and when it came out there were slabs of lead on it. I cleaned it all out then switched from CCI Blazer to Standard Velocity and never had it happen again.

Well I soaked the barrel in some mineral spirits for a while and managed to clean out some more crap. The brass rod isn't hanging up 1/2 though it anymore.

I still don't know what I am seeing in the middle of the barrel.

Here are the bad pictures, let me know what you think:

UPDATE:

Took the GSG to the range a few nights ago. Sent 200 rounds down range (without a single failure I might add). I was hitting all over the place (probably more me then the gun). Anyways I shot it from the bench for a while. I can't remember if it was shooting poorly then started grouping better, but I think that may have been the case. The windage was really off, so I tuned that up.

Anyways, I went to start a second scrubbing to the barrel tonight but the crude must of been blasted out.

A bore snake is too soft.

You need some proper lead loosening solvent. Get some Hoppes or make up a batch of Ed's Red. And work a proper brass bristle brush back and forth a half dozen times with a cleaning solvent soak in between. The solvent will wick in between the lead and barrel metal and the brass bristle brush will bust the lead free. From all you've described you've got some serious lead build. Now is not the time for weak kneed tools. It's time to get aggresive with the cleaning to work the buildup loose.
