Who makes the better rod? Tipton .... Or... Dewey? Please explain why.

And what brand is a good quality bore guide that I should be looking for?

Just want to hear some opinions/experiences before I go spend alot of money. Thx

I use BoreTech rods because they have better bearings than the Dewey and last longer. I also use Neil Jones Custom products bore guides. He makes the inserts for any rod properly sized to fit. No slop in this setup. Rod is nicely centered in the bore to minimize rod/bore wear.

I have a few Dewey rods and they work fine. I have a couple of bore guides for ARs, different makes and so far no issues with those.

X2 for the BoreTech rods.:)

I recently received my fourth one in the mail.:D

I just use this adjustable bore guide made by Pro-Shot Products:

Dewey rods and such work really good for everyday use, but don't use any rods with coatings that can melt/dissolve when using a heavy bore solvent or copper fouling cleaner.

Best advice is get the proper size rod for the barrel diameter.

WOW! Maybe I don't clean enough but I have never worn out a rod (really) be it an AJ or a Dewey!
I have a pile of them where the bearings in the handle bind and won't turn with the rifling. Not the rod itself worn out. When I first started cleaning in the 80's I guess I worked them just a little too hard. ;)
If someone could repair them they'd be back in the game. Free to whoever wants to pay the shipping.
I still have some that are working, but the rest got upgraded to BoreTech. Not one problem with them and I find them easier to grab with the longer softer handle.

The older Dewey rods were made with only a single bearing in the handle.
The last few years that has changed to a double bearing set up in the handle. This does solve the binding issue.
As with any coated rod, there are some chemicals that will damage this coating material. Your basic bore cleaners will not damage the coating.
Dewey does make a line of uncoated SS rods, they are not very well known, but are still an excellent rod.
