Cleaning rust on SKS -- corrosive ammo

Why has nobody stressed this part??

You need to disassemble and clean the firing pin. This is a very important step that should not be overlooked.
I've never had to disassemble the bolt for cleaning. Simply douse it with break cleaner. Not issues ever by just using that method.
Bore spray
Brake cleaner
Solvent
Oil
The only products that I ever use on my SKS'.
There is a lot of overkill and panic surrounding corrosive ammo cleaning IMO.

Use a 50 50 mix of acetone and ATF in a container that the bolt will fit in. Let soak while you are cleaning rest of SKS. It will penetrate any rust and lube at same time.

Stand rifle muzzle down and use eye dropper to get some of mix down gas port to help loosen any rust and carbon.

When you are satisfied with your cleaning, you are done. WEAR EYE PROTECTION the next time you shoot.

If your firing pin is ever stuck and the gun runs, go to your vehicle and drop some ATF fluid from the dipstick on the bolt face and let it sit for a minute or two. It should free it up.

Its important to disassemble the bolt and give it a thorough cleaning, especially the first time when you get your new to you gun. After that I only take the bolt apart every 4-5 times I use the rifle and clean it just by spraying and soaking in hot water, then blowing it dry. Carbon and dirt does get into the bolt assembly and it builds up over time, the best way is to take it apart once in a while to keep the pin free.

100% correct I had one that the firing pin had to be polished and the carrier also pay attention to the chamber. This can allow the cartridge to sit higher and cause a slam fire
