I am cleaning the gas piston on my Beretta AL391 and I am looking for suggestions on what cleaner/lubricant to use to remove the powder residue that has built up. Thanks in advance.
Mix up a batch of Ed's Red and put some in a small container and drop the piston in and let it soak for a bit. Just a matter of wiping off the carbon afterwards. As noted above I wipe a light coating of BreaK Free over the piston assembly after it's cleaned.
We used to clean FN gas pistons in a fire bucket (a 5 gallon metal bucket full of sand). Really did a good job but I'm sure the Battery Sergeant Major would have killed us if he knew.
Break Free and a bronze brush. If you shoot it wet with Break Free, most of it will wipe off. The small amount of fouling that remains will not cause any function issues.
