Cleaning the out of the box m14

i was reading posts by the m14 gurus, realized i got my m14 oiled all over with G96, but they say i need "grease" i have jigaloo and the can says "grease" im guessing they mean a kind of paste or cream? Are they mentioning grease for the cost? or is it necessary to put a creamy grease (not from a canister)

no part of the rifle needs oil. G96 however is good to spray and then wipe down well as it leaves a protective coating.
gas assembly, ie : cylinder and piston needs to be absolutely free of oil/grease..... this rifle is a dry gas system. Your bolt, inside, must be free of oil/grease and also is a "dry" system.
grease your bolt externally only, grease your trigger group, grease the track that the oprod rides in.
I use plain old white grease....... hitch ball grease to be exact hehehe
I use a special grease called "super lube" for my bolt roller.

Get your shelf either a small paint brush like they use for model painting and a tube of white lithium grease and your good to go for a long time or do what Hungry likes and get a large syringe and fill it up with lithium grease. No oil for lubrication on the m14s rifles.

i just didnt want to spend anymore dollars right now and i think i mightve G96ed the bolt... also my gas system came in totally greased up, did clean it though
thought my G96 would be enough, seems otherwise

charles, G96 is excellent for general protection and it does clean grease and cosmo quite well. I bathe my firearms with the stuff :D , wiping it all down well afterwards.

Spend 4 bux at Canadain Tire and get a tube, (for a grease-gun) of grease. It doesn't really matter what kind, they are all good.
I use a moly-loaded bearing/axle grease. It offers great protection and lubricity; but it's very messy. One of the clear blue or red greases would be nicer to handle.

i bhought a tube of snowmobile grease afterall, it doesnt have the best smell nor color but it seems to work for now
