I picked up a Mauser 1871 Carbine that has been sitting in an attic for the last fifty years. The rifle is in good shape, but I would like to clean up the stock and not cause any damage to the finish. What should I use?
Thanks

Mike D.

Wood is wood. Use the same products and techniques you'd use on fine furniture. Murphy's Oil Soap comes to mind for a bath.

Remove built up dirt with linseed oil and very very fine steel wool and light pressure. Finish with a coat of bees wax furniture polish.
