So i'm trying to clean my Mec-Gars from my Sig P226

I'm having a terrible time dissembling them. I've watched a few videos on youtube, but the base plates on mine do not come off the same. I'm guessing it has something to do with the stupid 10 round mags, being Canada and all.

I tried removing the base plate on one, but ended up getting a rod suck in it...not changing my 10 round mag to a 9 round mag:(

Can someone please lend me a hand and help me dissemble them.

Thanks

If I'm thinking of the same type magazine (with the extended baseplate), then the easiest way I've found is to take apart a Bic pen & use the flat end of the inner barrel to push up through the bottom of the baseplate, then slide the baseplate off. once it's started, you can pull the pen out...

It's actually very easy, all you need is a thin long object. I use a small screwdriver, you know those who come in sets at the dollar store in pack of 6-7 (Screwdriver for electronic?). Just insert it in the hole at the bottom and push, you will then be able to push the basepad off.

After that be careful (wear protective glasses at least), hold the metal basepad with your thumb and push on it so it disengage from the mag lips and slide it out.

I'm pretty sure I had found a guide for that online...

+1. You only need to push the inner piece up a bit to disengage the floor plate and slide it off. My NP-34 mags come apart with no problems like this, if it requires much force something is not right.

Well fellas, little update here.

I tried the Bic ben inner barrel and it got me in more trouble, it got stuck inside my mag.

It seems like the baseplate is connected to the mag with a one inch piece of plastic.

From these photos, can anyone shed some light on what i need to do to break them down?

Good Lord... I'm not sure what you have done there but you only need to insert the "rod" till you feel the spring start to compress. Once you feel that start to slide the base towards the front (round part) of the mag and pull out the rod. Continue to slide the base forward till it comes off but be carefull to control the butt plate and spring with your thumb as the spring is under a lot of pressure. The only thing holding the base onto the mag is a small nub on the butt plate so you don't have to compress the spring that much and once you move the base away from the nub it should be clear.
I only have a couple of those mags and much prefer the older style with the hollowed out base.

Waaaaait a minute... You know that the entire plastic piece visible at the bottom of the magazine is the baseplate and is one piece, right?

So if you're looking at a mag, about 1/3 of it's height is "baseplate" plastic that needs to be separated from the metal body.

It sounds from your wording that you're trying to slide apart two plastic pieces that are, in fact, one.

What he ^ said. That whole piece of plastic is your base pad. Not just the piece on the bottom that sticks out.

I first thought they were 2 different pieces. But i soon found out that it was one large one.

Thanks for the continuous help. I'm gonna try again tonight and see where i'm at.

Any more suggestions will be appreciated!
