Cleaning your O/U

Complete disassembly once a year, clean with brake cleaner. Reassemble using grease for things that slide and oil for things that rotate. I use synthetic grease since it doesn't tend to harden up after a while. Clean choke tubes with a bore brush chucked up in the cordless drill and 0000 steel wool wrapped in the bristles. Cuts plastic out in a hurry! Always lube the choke tube threads with grease or heavy oil such as gear oil, light oil tends to not stay around to support the threads very long.
In between shoots it's a quick wipe and re-grease.

To clarify, do you mean a gun sock containing silicone? Whats rimfire forum? Does it apply similarly to shotgunning? Are you suggesting that it is silicone the puts marks on firearms?
The proper name is rimfirecentral.com
They had photos of blotchy stocks, can’t remember any marks on the bluing. It may be the different varnishes used in the guns but it was enough for me to remove mine from the socks. Some socks come impregnated with silicone preservative maybe the early models
