I've used my fathers treeestand for the last 5 years or so. It is a solid built set up/take down style, approx 20' up, very durable, has the safety/shooting bar, very comfortable and has proven it's worth.

Problem is though, pretty much once it's set up, it's going to stay there till we get together, pull it down together and reset it up somewhere else. Not that I couldn't do it myself but it's a lot easier with 2 or more people helping. Sometimes the area gets pretty quite and it should be moved but we get too comfortable with it being there.

Anywhoo, thinking of using a treestand climber aka Summit Viper. Gives me alot more freedom of where I want to go sit up in a tree and can take it home with me at the end of the day.

Any problems or concerns? pros? cons? stick with what I got and stock being so lazy?

Won't be using it this year but will be asking Santa for one for Xmas :D

I have one.... one of my stand locations is at a rich guys house where his home is nested smack in the middle of 100+ acres.... he ran the phone line in so I use this one and can get about 30 feet off the ground and look right down the phone line.... tha tis the trade off we made, I keep the lines in clear of brush with the old stihl and he lets me hunt there during gun season....lol... bottom line.. they work great... but do what I did.... practice with it before you need to use it....

I have the viper as well as a bolt on style and have the use of a few other types as well.

I find the viper very comfortable and recomend it. Make sure you anchor the top section to the tree with a ratchet strap as when you are standing up it will move around once you take your weight off the seat. I had the top section drop about a foot once on me as I didnt secure it to the tree with a ratchet strap.

Make sure you have the bottom section attached to the top section at all times , one of my coworkers had to cell phone afriend when the bottom section dropped to the ground on him.

Practise with it a few times , once I learnt to point my toes down when moving the bottom section it is quite easy .When mounting or dismounting have the top section off to one side as it will be easier to get set up.Make sure you get the optional foot rest as it is more comfortable with it.

The noise of unpacking and setting up each time are a drawback , a guy I hunt with has the viper backpacker and it folds up a little smaller.
Always use a harness

I've got the summit goliath. I would have got the viper but they were out so I got the bigger one. Can't say I regret it though, it's a bit bigger and heavier but is plenty comfortable and fairly easy to use. But like was said before, use the right procedures and practice with it before you try to climb up or down and pack it up in the dark.

I just bought the summit 180` and love it easy to carry in and set up,and I have the option to sit with my back to the tree or face the tree and look around it,summit also offers some good accesories for there stands on there website

I also have a Summit Goliath SS its the t**s but don't buy it if you want to stay awake on your watch ;)

#### cant say tits

ok its a really nice stand I highly recommend it...................

I have used the single climber in the old days. I never got too comfortable with them due to limited movements with the small size. As a result I was unable to sit longer than an hour at a time.

I just started bow hunt last reason and put up a 18’ double tree stand with a shoot rail. They are a lot easy to climb and more comfortable for a long wait. I sat in the double stand for almost six hours without any fatigue. They are not very mobile as you have noted.

I use a ladder stand and I love it. It comes up and down with two people. I much prefer it over the climbing stand. True the climbing stand is more portable if you decide to move it mid-hunt but the ladder stand can be moved as well with an atv or truck. A good alternative might be to purchase a ground blind or fashion your own with camo neTting and a chair. It doesn't need to be fancy, many deer have been shot just leaning on a tree.

I have a summit razor, really like it.
It has straps so you ca carry it on your back but I find it is still pretty cumbersome, i would not want to take it with me every night. definately use the tether between the top and bottom stands, when i assembled mine i thought wtf are the odds i would need that. About my third time out with it I would have lost the bottom piece and be stuck in the tree if it wasn't for that tether lol
