Anybody here ever try one of those "Clipdraw" thingies? I know that for most of us, the sad reality is that we can't CCW (yet), but it's still fun to try out all the IWB holsters and other CCW gear at the range.

I think it looks kinda neat and that it fills the niche of those who want to "border carry" without the fear of losing their gun down their pant leg.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I'm not totally sold on the Glock safety thingy, but the clipdraw itself looks kinda neat.

Think about this: every holster will add bulk to your gun-print; the clipdraw virtually eliminates that.

(remember, we're arguing on the internet in Canada here; :canadaFlag: it'll be a long time before we can actually CCW so this is all really a moot point)
 
Just carry the Glock with an empty chamber and the issue is solved.
I carry mine with one chambered when I'm down south (with proper permits of course).
I have used the clipdraw on my g22c before but it tends to get snagged and the pistol hangs funny. I prefer my iwb holster.

That would be a major disadvantage if you needed your pistol and it had slipped or canted to a funny angle. Much less of a chance of that happening with a good IWB holster, eh?

Still though, for $20, I just might get one anyway just to see.

For goofing off at the range, maybe for IDPA, sure. Would I trust that to actually hold a gun that I was counting on to protect my life? No, I don't think so.
Also, in a life and death scenario, are you going to remember to spit out the little safety block? You'd need to train a LOT to condition poking that little thing out. When it's time for lead to start flying, fine motor skills, go out the window. Like anything, if you dedicated to the time to properly condition yourself to it, fine, but otherwise, it's trouble waiting to happen.
The site mentions the cost of holsters. For what they are, holsters are actually very affordable. Between $100-$300, will buy you a holster, that will last the rest of your life is you used it everyday.

It is definitely a good idea I just think that a little more R&D could solve the placement issue.
I found that it would tilt the pistol so that the barrel was pointing slightly rearward. It would stay in that position so as long as you were aware of it being like that it was fine.
The printing of the pistol was nearly non-existent with it tho, which was nice. But I trust my IWB holster much more. I find with the IWB holster I have the pistol stays where I put it.
I think if I tinker with the clipdraw I could make it work better for me. A bend in the clip that would bring the clip further down the frame (towards the mag well direction) could place the pistol in a much better position to draw and fire.
I saw pick one up, you may like it. Many people prefer how it sits with the clipdraw but wasn't my cup of tea.

This is the IWB holster I use currently and like very much.

So far the leather IWB holsters I find are the best. The ballistic nylon ones seem to wear on clothing and the girlfriend gets pissed when it messes up a nice shirt or something :p

If you are looking for serious concealment that is next to impossible to detect then the clip dray is great.

If you absolutely must stuff your pistol down your pants without a holster, at least get something that covers the trigger like this Raven doohickey:

I had one on a glock... for the hell of it. It interfered with the holster :p

If we were allowed to carry in Canada and I used the clip draw, I too would probably carry it with an empty chamber.

But, I'd just get a decent IWB holster.

I lived in the US for many years and had a carry permit in a couple of different states. At one point I used a Clipdraw. It was OK, but eventually I went back to a holster. It was a personal preference. I just felt better having the gun inserted into a carrier instead of it being "naked" on the belt. But the Clipdraw "worked" as advertised.

Carrying with an empty chamber DEFEATS THE PURPOSE TO CARRYING. If carrying with an empty chamber becomes an option, its not an option, change your gear. Holsters provide a secure and consistent location for carrying your pistol. The Clip draw is a gimmick.

That is YOUR opinion. Unfortunately that opinion is not shared with EVERYONE out there.
Yes, if you a are presented with a situation where you must react SO fast that you do not have time to rack a slide then yes you would be correct. Otherwise it is personal preference. I carry with one in the chamber because I am comfortable with that, many do not.

If you aren't comfortable carrying with a round chambered and don't understand that unloaded firearms are useless, you shouldn't be carrying a firearm in the first place. A defensive gunfight is not something that occurs with excessive amounts of time. The need to rack the slide prior to defending yourself only adds to the required movements in the draw. How would you draw and rack the pistol with one hand before being shot or attacked? Without extensive practice in drawing and cycling the slide, carrying "Israeli" (which they don't do anymore) will get you killed.
