I have tried with no success to get a clarification on this from CFC to no availl,
The Question: Can I take a Non-restricted firearm(Ruger10/22 or Rem 597) and with no modification to reciever, barrel etc..,simply change or manufacture a stock and reciever shroud to make a clone(look alike) of a MP5 or Sig 522,ACR,SCAR,G36 etc...?
I also included that this is already being done with the two models I mentioned to replicate the AR platform and they remain non-restricted.Would this same principle be applicable to all firearms clones?
I also mentioned that have no intention af "bullpup" designs as these quickly become a prohibited as already in law(meaning I can find it in writeing) can find no such thing for my inquiry.
Anybody else tried this??? any info appreciated, thanks

Well I know that there are some G36 stocks for the 10/22 that were showcased at the SHOT show. Not sure if anyones brought some in but I think they may have. Also there was a guy on the board here who made some real nice thompson kits for the 10/22. I don't know about the other one you mentions but I would have to imagine that its ok as long as you stay above all legal lengths and DO NOT cover the serial number with the kit you make.

This is just my .02 though so someone with more experience may be able to give you an actual legal answer (though you'll probably get alot of "call the CFO" type responses)

As far as I know yes this is fine.

One guy on here mocked up his Vz.58 to look like an AK.

It doesn't change the action of the gun in any way.

This is my way of thinking as well, already lots of clones out there for such builds, but wanted to do something chalenging.CFC and CFO have been of little to no help at all-Get the usual response"let me get back to you" 2months go by and nothing.Just want to make sure not going to be creating a "prohibited device" before I go through the trouble and expense of manufacturing (very small scale-Less than 10)make one for myself and figure out a easilly duplicatable process for limited runs/shooting buddies etc..
Seen the Tompson kit--looks awsome

Do you mean something along the line of a 10/22 - AK47 clone for example?

This is fine. I think the only exception would be using a bullpup stock. Bullpups are not illegal, but their stocks are.

Wow,thanks guys getting some good feedback here. I made sure that they knew I had excluded the idea of bullpups so as not to get into that can of worms with them.

What I can't understand is why can you make a gun thats non restricted look restricted, but you can't buy them? Why can you buy the CZ that looks just like an AK to the untrained eye, but not buy an AK thats been converted to semi, or buy ARs...i don't understand

What I can't understand is why people expect our laws to have any sense of reason behind them. They were cooked up by people that dislike guns. Imagine if Air Regs were made by people that are afraid to fly.

(Not a personal attack, Quadragon, just a dig at the clowns that made our laws);)

Exactly what I mean. You made this?? wow that looks nice

Thanks Heckler,
Their basically a shell & barrel that you buy that fits over your 10/22 receiver and trigger group. You then mod it to your liking after that (trigger, grip, cocking handle, sights etc) and as long as it's over 26" OAL your good to go!

nice job Wham-o,this idea is what I am after-just manufacturing instead of purchasing.I love personal chalenges and believe anything is do-able.
just want to stay in the "good books" and not run the risk of loosing my current collection over something stupid like "you modified it and didn't buy it that way" mentality of our CFC
Just to be clear--Not all CFC employees are bad, have had several good experiences with them-but there is the occasional one that seems to be on a Wendy KOOky type mission, and should not be there

A member here has posted photos of his 10/22 1917 Browning project. Plans from an outfit called Coffee Cup Stains, iirc. He also did a one-off .50 M2 in .22, with a .22 barrelled action inside a housing.

Thanx, its a fungun tommy kit, discontinued so i claimed my last one for myself! 12.5" Dlask heavy target barrel, VQ target trigger & extractor, Promag drum.
