Close call in Northern AB

If its 700lbs why they gotta stand 10' behind it for the photo?
Reminds me of a Cougar pic ...
Guys stood several feet behind it to make it look larger ...
I think these guys are sitting at the rear end of the bear and not really trying to enhance the photo.
Btw, it was a big cat, but the posing from the angle (broadside) was the ironic part...
Guy has a story to tell for a long time...as for carrying aside arm might have cost him his life if he was out flinging sticks during an archery season.

That is the one thing many don't expect when they hit the woods with a call and start imitating the animals the bears and wolves feed on.
You are just as likely to call in a predator in a lot of areas these days..... especially in BC now that the Grizz populations are rising unchecked.
Guy is amazingly fortunate to have been using a bow since he was 4 and a master with his weapon and nerves as an adult.
Good story

Something tells me a broadhead straight through the neck / chest etc from that close being flung from a 70+ lb bow would be plenty fatal for a bear. Maybe not kill it isn’t to but enough to make it reconsider what it’s doing in sure having a broadhead pass through mouth to ####### doesn’t feel great.

https://www.outdoorlife.com/hunting/grizzly-bears-eat-elk-carcass/

we will only hear of a fraction, only short number of years back the didsbury butcher was killed and eaten by bergen while going in with his bow for elk, a friend of my uncle's, few number of years back Rick Cross was killed opening morning sheep down in the highwood, I saw him drive by the night before, I went into a different spot and found out a couple days later when I was back, for only 500 bears I feel like even the short amount of time I've spent out there I've seen 20% of them lol, the lies and lies we're told about their numbers and the media compliance in not warning the people the true dangers out there is deafening silence, anyway...about the only place you might not run into them in this province on any given day at any given time might be the southeast corner where the antelope are running around, keep your bear spray handy and make sure everyone understands as soon as you get 10' from the truck outside the cities and towns you're now in their world, carry accordingly, every year the past 15 plus years more and more reports, more maulings, more scary events, more defence events, every year the number goes up and up, media = crickets, we're just warming up this year, I got more stories than just those two fatalities, heck a decade ago or more I was around 8 in one day in south k-country, only 500 bears, what a crock of sh1t that story was back in the day in order to politically shut down the hunt...all based on lies

I've heard a lot of stories about big game travelling on for long distances after being fatally shot with a rifle but contrary stories about how a modern broadhead will bring something down almost instantly. If you look at the darn things, bristling with razor blades as they do, it makes sense. For sure, when the more recent versions first came out they certainly seemed to be killing a lot of bow hunters who fell on them, that went on for quite a few years.

Dude's name is Samson Coward.

That's funny on its own.

Sidearms should be legal in Bear territory. This took a ton of experience to not get jacked on Adrenaline and miss.

Sidearms should be legal when hunting, period.

Be it for Predator defense or for finishing a wounded animal.

Given how tight the laws are around owning a Handgun, this would enhance safety not reduce it.

He may be a Coward (Samson Coward) but he has balls the size of book end. I think if it were me the bear would have had a shi##y meal if you know what I mean

This bear wasn't charging, he was just very opportunity close and that young fellow was very lucky wasn't in mid charge when he was shot with the sharp stick and just ambled off in a different direction after being hit.
If that bear was in mid charge he would have still done his business with that dude loooonngggg before he died from a sharp stick. sharp sticks require blood loss to kill, kinetic energy or broken bones aren't in the equation at all. And a bears very slow heartbeat that would result in a slow bleed-out, would allow that bruin to live long enough to complete a very long charge before expiring.

have killed lots of stuff with sharp stick, one of the best examples of just how quickly they can kill was a Jim Shockey show on a big black bear one of his hunters shot and it hopped maybe 2 to 3 time and was dead.....pretty incredible bit of footage and was not a small bear

anyway, reading article sounds like bear had to come around some trees to reach him and he hit the gap through the trees and that's why not a frontal shot, for those that didn't read the entire article ;)

don't worry, we will get our sidearms and suppressors soon, we're already part of the United States republic so just have a bit more show to go through here and then we can get started on the assimilation ;)
