Funny how you're trying to imply cowardice when I'm saying there would have been a large chance for no incident even with the bear in close proximity while you are implying you would shoot any bear that comes near you out of fear. Pretty sure you're the coward bud lol
I hunt in grizz territory. Have been very near them plenty of times, and have had to use bear spray on two separate occasions. This guy shot a bear broadside. Explain how that happens in a charge.
Hey Newbie!
First of all I never stated you were a coward, you said this. I said you would have sh1t yourself and I stand by that.
Second, Hunting in grizzly country with a rifle is much different than a bow & arrow. An arrow kills by hemorrhage not shock, a animal struck with an arrow or bolt can live from six seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on which organs are hit. Lots of damage can result in this time frame from a grizzly charge and attack. A firearm can kill instantly if a brain/spine shot has been delivered.
This young man made a decision in a few seconds I'm sure, I believe he did what he felt was right at the time. And who are you to judge him?.....
This bear may have wondered off without charging, maybe the grizzly would have mauled and killed this fellow. The bottom line is he made a decision and it appears the Alberta Fish & Wildlife Officers have investigated and are satisfied it was a justified kill. I'm sure the hunter feared for his life with grievous bodily harm and/or death. It's a decision not to be made hastily, but is sometimes a split second one.
Third, I am glad for you that you have deployed bear spray and survived, my personal believe is bear spray isn't 100 percent effective with wind direction and a bears tolerance of the spray can vary. Bear spray is for snowflakes at best.
Yes he shot the bear broadside, so what! He obviously feared for his safety and decided to put the odds in his favor. Apparently it worked, the bear is dead and he is unscathed.
Now, do I think they should have taken a harvest photo with the bear? No I don't, but this does not give you the right to call him out. It makes you sound like a stupid Liberal/NDP b@g-licker. Wise up if you are going to comment on this gun sight.
If you are curious as to my background, I am a veteran hunting guide and a retired Natural Resource Officer. Unfortunately I have had to destroy a few grizzlies and black bears that have decided to charge me, my hunters or coworkers. Sometimes bears need to be killed. They are unpredictably unpredictable.
I did not read or see anywhere this particular grizzly bear charged. And so what if it didn't. I am certain there are many here on this sight who would have also made a decision to try and kill the bear.
If Alberta and British Columbia wouldn't have closed grizzly hunting due to the outcry from snowflakes, maybe this bear would have a little more fear and respect for humans. We are the apex predator, not the grizzly bear. Grizzly bears can be hunted with the current sustainable numbers. The do-gooders will have people believing they are endangered, which is absolute hogwash.
