closest shot

I shot a whitetail doe with my .45-70 at about 12 feet. The neat thing was that she was directly over top of me and I got her in the brisket. She had been pushed by hounds and was bounding down a steep slope when she saw me. She jumped over me (the contour of the hill put me below her) and I shot her on the fly. That was a fun day.

cheers Darryl

When rabbit hunting one day, i stepped up on a blowdown to have a look around. I happened to look down and here was a rabbit directly between my boots. I lowered the 20 ga and separated his head from his body at a range of 12".

Not a shot I made, but I did witness a very close one. When I was 14 the year before I could hunt legal I was on watch with my cousin in a thick ceadar swamp. The dogs picked up a deer a few hundred yrds from us.My cousin got ready. When the deer came out he actally had to pull back the shotgun to shoot. So the deer was closer than the length of the shotgun. Now thats close. And yes he did get it.

I shot a small buck at 15 feet with my .270 that someone pushed to me while I was sitting. I shot moose at 25 yards with my 300 Ultra Mag while still hunting, between the eyes. I also shot an elk in Colorado that I snuck up to 20 feet away and shot him between the eyes when he looked at me.

However, I once snuck up to 15 feet from 2 deer that were sleeping on the ground. At first, I thought they were partridge because all I could see were their ears moving back and forth. I watched them for a second while carefully sliding my safety off, aimed and missed! I also missed a doe standing 15 feet from me with 2 shots.

I've been successful on a few but I've missed some dandy shots as well. That's hunting!

Shooting them up close is very exciting.

Was shootin gophers out past 300 yards with my 7mm, when I look down and see a little squeak-head poking up from a hole 3 feet in front of me. 7mm+gopher+point blank range = mess ;)

Rabbit at 3 feet. It shot out from under the cover. I did an involentary hip shot that picked it up and carried it for another 20 feet.

Skined it
Cleaned it
Cooked it.

John Wayne would have been impressed.

Bits of rabbit hanging from branches all around.

Sad, but yet funny at the same time
