If this Thread is already out there please send me the link.

I was wondering about using/firing a AR-15 compared to something that could be used more often then just at the range(Non Restricted) Don't get me wrong the AR-15 is an awesome piece of machinery but it would be nice to take something with you when heading to the bush. Any thoughts or advice on what you are using or whats out there.

Thanks In advance.

Yeah there's a few threads. Just scroll through a few pages.
First off we need a price range or at least an upper limit ;)

I'm not in 3-gun but I have a Modern Varmint which is as close as any rifle out there to being a nonrestricted AR-15 but it's not cheap. I had to sell a couple of my favorite rifles to get it. But I think it was worth it. I really like the AR platform and this is pretty darn close.

There are cheaper options but nothing as close to an AR.

yea a stripped down bare bones AR is roughly $1000 so in the price range of 1000-1500. Am I dreaming?
Unfortunately, yes you are. I wish there was something like that. One problem I find is the length of a NR barrel. The options available begin to look odd with that long of a barrel and then the weight starts to get silly for a bush gun at 10 pounds+.
Other than that beautiful ATRS above there are BT APC 5.56s coming in from Wolverine. They will be $4000 plus. That would be the best option if you can afford it. Aside from that I've seen some used NR bushmaster ACRs for $2600ish.
NEA is supposed to be releasing a NR AR style rifle in 308 for $1500.

There's a Jard 48, looks kinda like an AR.
Uses AR triggers,And weighs about 6 ish pounds.
It had some issues when it first came out.
I'm not sure if they were resolved, heard they were.
It was quite accurate and handled very nicely though.

It was the closet thing to an AR ,until the MV came about.
XCR is nothing like an AR, other than it's a semi .
And I don't think the ACR is either.

Isn't that a pump action?

Yes, so not for 3 gun use!!!

OP: as stated, you're chasing a unicorn. I suppose the AR180B may fill your bill, but they're hard to find and hitting the $2k mark now. XCRs and ACRs are roughly similar in layout, but don't operate exactly the same as an AR, and a lot more $$. From what I've seen I don't think the KelTec Su-16s wouldn't stand up to 3 Gun...

I've been wanting to order a modern varminter but I'd like to know more about how solid the charging handle is. Does it feel like a lomg lasting durable design? It's way different looking than a rear charging handle. Just curious

There are a couple XCR l on the EE right now for at or under 2000

As a side note, does it really matter? 3 gun requires a pistol, no?
That's the only thing preventing me from really getting in to the sport.
