Closest thing to a AR-15 that is Non Retricted for 3 GUN

I knew I could count on my CGN family(no one else understands why we love firearms so much)to come up with options! Time to start checking them all out(half the fun)
THANK YOU

A Tavor, though how the ergonomics are for 3 Gun, I couldn't say. You would need to upgrade the trigger from what I've heard. At least they take STANAG magazines.

To find a decent NR semi for 3-guns for under $1500, update this following field in you CGN profile:

Held one for the first time today, surprisingly light, probably a fine 3 gun rifle.

If i wasnt dead set on the x95 It would probably have been my second choice. Or the acr. Whichever was cheapest and came first. Hehe

Kind of a hijack....but...does anyone know of a league or course in Alberta similar to three gun, but without the requirement for restricted firearms? Like for instance just a CQB rifle course, or rifle and shotgun course?

In terms of accuracy and ergonomics, a converted acr is closest. The recoil impulse is a little different, accuracy is the closest I've seen out of all the non restricted platforms, and the ergonomics are better. So the weight and the "chunkier" recoil impulse are the downsides.

Sl8 was the next closest for accuracy, but the ergonomics suck.

The modern varmint looks the closest appearance and ergo wise, but accuracy reviews have been underwhelming. This however is the only non restricted black rifle that I have not personally owned, so I'm open to correction there.

The rob arms xcr's have comparable ergos and weight to the acr, but accuracy is laughable.

Tavor is slower to shoot than an ar due to ergos and recoil impulse, and the accuracy is in the same boat as the xcr's.

What do you think is the out of the box accuracy of an AR, open sights, benched, @100 yards?

What do you think is the out of the box accuracy of an XCR, open sights, benched, @100 yards?

EDIT to add...

Here is a target from the range yesterday. I wanted to take the XCR L and shoot it with 40 gr Hornady V max Factory.

It was shot off of a double AR canvas gun case with a box of Hornady ammo under the fore end, no rear bag.

#1 shots are initial and I knew before I shot that I would likely be off high with the 40 gr as opposed to heavier that I had been using months ago.
I adjusted the front sight.

#2 shots indicate I went to far with the front sight adjustment, so I quickly re adjusted the front sight and shot again.

#3 shots were invisible, all except the one at 6 o clock in the white, I could see it and figured I was grouping near the bottom of the black. I then made a fine adjustment to the front sight and re shot. That is a 3 inch group of 5.

#4 shots were also invisible, being in the black at a distance of 100 yds. I walked down range and pulled the target, That is a 2.3" group with open sights, shooting off of a canvas guncase with a box of ammo under the fore end for a rest and no rear bag.
I had never shot the XCRl keymod with 40 gr as it is a 1/9 twist.

So my point is.... that isn't laughable accuracy and the same as any AR out of the box that I have ever owned with a standard ~18" barrel, open sights and a real world "use what ya got" rest.

Unless you have smoking good eyes and practice with Irons you won't be able to tell the difference...but there will likely be one, and you'll never know if it was you or the rifle that missed. cou:

I actually seem to do better with either platform away from the bench. I shoot with hvy barreled bolt guns so much, that I seem to let the ARs and XCRs hop or jump when on a rest.

I still believe there is no finer coyote calling gun than the XCRL-AR types especially for multiple targets unless you are beyond 300m and then custom barrels and hand loads can extend that.

There are a couple XCR l on the EE right now for at or under 2000

As a side note, does it really matter? 3 gun requires a pistol, no?
That's the only thing preventing me from really getting in to the sport.

Already have that covered(sort of) no fancy triggers or anything yet but all in due time. Black gun next then the shot gun.

Why not a {upgraded} T97? Find them well under $1500, just the mag changes won't be as quick :p Lotsa practice-& an upgraded mag release position.

I've had a couple, they were reliable enough, easy to get under 2 moa, with hand loads.
The only thing in common to an AR ,is 10 rnd pistol mags, it has a pistol grip, you can try a few diff but stocks.
I didn't like like it,compared to my AR and wouldn't buy another one.

Now if it was absolutely the high end of my affordability, then yes.
But for a few hundred more you can get a used XCR.
Keep your eyes peeled on the EE.
