Closest thing to AK47 in Canaduh?

What calibre are these valmets? I seen "murdoc" from Arma-Coat has some CZ858's for sale that look appealing ... damn guns eh?! HAHA. Let's see some pics of your rifles and different variants you're all talking/posting about!!!

I've seen them for sale in the EE, pretty certain they are in a few caliber. 223, 243, 308 maybe another? But apparently from what I have read on here and a few other places the receiver is an ak receiver, its a hunting version ak. Pretty cool rigs, VERY costly to a guy like me but if you could afford one Im sure it would be a hoot!

rodngun, I just went thru every page on the EE with them in there for 223 and 308 valmets ... wow expensive and I don't like the stocks they have on them as it's like a hunting stock ... I like the wood pistol grip and fore-hand. I think I may have to look at these CZ858's a bit more. :D

You can't go wrong with an 858 from Murdoc/Arma-Coat. I got one from them about 6 months ago and it goes everywhere with me, or at least it goes everywhere my truck does. :D I just wish CZ would have put out the "Canadian" verson a little sooner. I would have liked one of those and sadly, cannot afford or justify another 858. Check em out.

I couldn't agree more with the murdoc/armor coat (new or lightly used ones). Iv gone through 2 cz858's so far (older versions). I find they scratch, bubble, peel if you ride them hard. I suppose anything will get wear and tear but Im not a fan of there finish. Once things get ugly I tend to dwell on it. So I sell it and pick up another. Sometimes you have to slay a few dragons to get to the princess.

MSRP on these is $1200, according to Tactical Imports' website... Kind of high for something that probably costs the Chinese State Arsenal $20 to manufacture on a good day (if that). Plus, if Norinco's SKS's or TT-33 Tokarevs are any indication of Chinese military rifle finish quality, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything "spectacular". Rough machining and sharp edges are surely to be expected, as was the case with all other Chinese military firearms I've handled. It's pretty clear that they just don't give a crap about quality control and sometimes even about the metal they use and/or tolerances.

Honestly, I too am intrigued by the Type 81... BUT for $1200, you can have almost two CZ-858's or a tactical-grade CSA Vz-58 with all kinds of toys & options on it (beautiful finish on those, by the way). In essence, if the Chi-Com Type 81 comes in at $1200 plus tax & shipping, they will not sell well once the initial "newness" wears out. Anyway, the Type 81 is not any more of an AK than a Vz-58. It basically looks like an SKS/AK abortion.

My secret hope is that we can have these in semi-auto/non-restricted in a not-so-distant future : the AK-12!

That, I'd have no problem paying $1200 for! (because it's the real deal and actually made by Russian arsenals)

f**k It, if its non restricted I'll buy one anyways. Already owned a cz-858 and vz-58 sporter, kind of bored of em.

I want it with wood though, not that hideous craptastic plastic s**t they try to pass off as furniture these days.

Otokiak, I just bought a CSA vz 58 with the funky "wood" and have been having a great bit of fun with it. My other guns are all hunting guns. The vz 58 is for pure fun. You won't be disappointed if you buy one:)

Otokiak with an AK!!!! :eek::D:eek:

Glad you had fun, Im glad to have had the AK-47 (atleast a semi-auto Romanian WASR-10) as the first rifle Ive ever fired in my life... :D

As alot of the other posts nailed it on the head here, the closest thing to an AK you can get like you mentioned is the Valmet Hunter, being that the RCMP FRT Database literallly has the description as "Variant of the Kalashnikov rifle as manufactured in Finland"; The Hunter along with the M78 (Has the FN FAL style carry handle, and barrel mounted Bi-Pod) were the only Valmets that was exempt from Prohibition...

But Id have to agree with majority of the posts in this thread also, go with an 858, very enjoyable rifle, and incredibly accurate for what they are thats for sure... :D

The Valmet Hunter (M88) can be converted to pistol grip or if you have woodworking skill you could make a SVD style stock. They came in calibers .223, .243, .308, .30-06.
The M78 came in 7.62x39 & .308

Post some pics Dan???

I'm seriously looking at the 858's that murdoc is selling yes. But I also wanna know about these Valmets.

The M78 came in 7.62x39 & .308

7.62x39 comes in surplus and is cheap yes? How accurate is it? M78 anyone got one? Got a picture? Does the M78 come with wood pistol grip and forehand? Thanks for all the replies and info guys/gals. Cheers,

That fact that it has the "AK" in the model identification alone will land it in the prohib status.
I hate to be pessimistic but I don't see that happening.

Yo strait up homie get da VZ58. Dis gun be lookin just like da AK. Yo homies who aint know about guns be thinkin it a real ak when dey see da banana clips blangin. U can get dis gun in 556 which a better bullet too fa sho

My friend, the CZ858's are the way to go. I have three of them (CZ/VZ/CSA) and they are pretty much all I shoot. Tough, accurate, and well made. Can't go wrong. The 7.62x39 is a gem of a cartridge too. I would make a great caribou round.

Pics saskcop? What is the main differences between a CZ/VZ and CSA? Thank you,

I know that price is certainly a difference, but there is nothing wrong with grabbing a non restricted CZ858 and then add all the extra go fast goodies to it. They are all quality guns. There is also the FSN's that Marstar sells, but they are restricted. I like to shoot out in the bush and hunt with mine so two of my three are non restricted. My CSA is a 5.56 too which means that it gets left at home more than the others. 7.62 is the way to go.

Valmont hunter.

Valmet M78 is probably closest, then Valmet M88 (Hunter).

I've seen some pretty realistic looking airsoft on sites such as www.torontoairsoft.com, www.mach1airsoft.com and www.milsig.ca

Closest would be a real AK-47 that has been deactivated.
