Closest thing to AK47 in Canaduh?

The original question was what's closest to an AK.
The closest is a Valmet, period, it IS an AK.

From what I have read and gone thru yes you are correct. I do NOT like the hunting type stock they put on them however. I like the idea of the CZ858 as surplus ammo is plenty to plink with. Damn laws eh ... after shooting an actual AK I want one ... but can't. :(

p.s. will go thru stickies ... just wanted actual advice from folks with experience with these types of different rifles. Thanks CGNer's.

Easy to put whatever actual AK stock on it, they show up in the EE all AK'ed up on a pretty regular basis.
Or buy the hunter and find the stock you want and DIY.
There is something to be said for the CZ and variants for sure...

I got myself on the waiting list for an Arma-Coat/CZ-858 Canadian Edition..Can't wait!!!!

Otokiak:

The M78 was made in .223, 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 (.308) and imported until the mid 80s. The 7.62x51 was built on a milled received whereas the two others were constructed on stamped receivers. Very rugged construction and overall beautiful RPKaye rifle. Mine below is a 7.62x39 (still unfired) and stamped Odin International in Alexandria, Va. Fewer than 10 made it up here in Canada in that particular caliber whilst the .308 version "appear" more common in the EE, I haven't seen one in a year although I do go on long hiatuses from this hobby. I would not bother modifying a hunter as parts seem scarce and you will up with a never ending project gun. But some members have done it with success. These are now "collector" guns and you'd be better off with other platforms for practical uses. You see how they were priced in 1981, expect to fork out a small fortune for one today.

good luck!

thats crazy that they sold for $549 and $359 for the valmets and people want 3K or more for em now.

Ohwell I love the CZ/VZ/CSA's so much. Great toys for what they are:

Here are my RPK and AK/ AK pistol clones

What are the chances of AK-47 family to become Restricted/non-Restricted and what does it take for someone to take a look in this pointless law and change it? Does anyone in RCMP owns firearms/gun enthusiast that actually knows anything about guns…..?

The type 81 looks like a rasheed carbine with an ak folding stock.

Putting a rasheed in a tapco stock if probably going to cost more than $1200 though :)

The VZ I can totally see... but an SKS? Unless you "pimp it out" that's a bit of a stretch no?
The vented hand guard and visible gas tube over the barrel are very distinct and identifiable features of both the SKS and the AK. More than once I've seen an SKS with extended mag (usually a 30 round duckbill) referred to as an "AK47" by someone who doesn't know any better.

Perhaps someone should post the journalist's guide to gun identification again. ;)

The SIG SG550/PE90 is pretty close to an extremely refined AKM if you want to get technical.

Or Just get a Valmet and call it a day, as it is exactly a Finnish Kalashnikov.

The Vz.58 is shares more traits with a Walther P38 than a AK, the only similar thing they got going is the same cartridge it fires.

The RCMP only enforce the laws, they don't make them. It's a political thing. The problem with the AK47 is its notoriety. Its the poster child for assault rifles and terrorist weapons. As long as people think 'evil baby killer' when they hear AK47, it will be prohibited. Which will pretty much be forever. When it comes to forming laws against firearms, all that seems to matter is what the average person thinks or feels.
