hey guys, great forum.

just curious what is the closest thing we have to the AR-15
that isn't restricted? I saw the XCR, what else is there? would
like to be able to shoot somewhere other than a range. n

Craig

AR-180b (out of production, so you can only get it used) and RobArms XCR would be the closest. XCR supports multiple calibers (.223, 6.8 and 7.62x39), which makes it useful for hunting as well as plinking, if that's what you want to do.

After that there are HK SL8s which are not really "close" but fun guns never the less. You can spend thousands of dollars and hours of fun dressing SL8 up to look like a G36.

If you are looking for a cheap (both to own and to fire) fun gun, then look into unrestricted Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm - I had a chance to borrow one from a buddy for a week, and I absolutely fell in love with it.

thanks guys for the quick response. boy there aren't many options, and the ones that are, are quite expensive, kind of takes the fun out of it.

I was just in the US visiting family and the father in law carries .357 magnum everywhere, even when we took my kids to the park, hehe. We took his AR-15 out in the bushes of Idaho, it's pretty much a free for all down there. not sure if I would like that here but something in the middle would be nice.

I would love to take my AR out in the bush and any other gun for that matter and it wont happen if people like you keep saying i dont know if i would like that here.:slap:

Don't get me wrong, I would love to as well, it just seems a little excessive down south, like the Wild, Wild West. His neighbour was cutting grass with a 9mm in a holster on his hip, just seemed kind of funny.

It is NOT excessive down south, and no where near the Wild Wild West. The Wild Wild West wasn't even like the Wild Wild West as portrayed in movies.

People down there are not sheep and have not all given up the right to defend oneself and ones family. They are getting better down there if I am not mistaken, more must issue open carry & CCW states, more states with CCW. The American media seems to be more on the side of the law abiding and the constitution.

If I could, I would were my 9mm open carry or CCW if permitted even cutting the grass, going to get groceries or just going for a walk. It is NOT funny, but normal and their right, as it should be ours.

Swiss Arms 550 would be a good bet. Ive heard nothing but good things from them. Accurate, reliable and non-restricted. They of course fire, the 5.56 (.223) round.

It is being prepared. It probably is highly unlikely that you are going to be attacked while cutting your grass. However, if you were.. wouldn't you rather have a means to defend yourself?

It may not be necessary at all times, but it would at least be nice to have the option. This is something that really depends on environment as well as your own personal choice on how prepared you want to be at any one time. They are incredibly lucky down south that they are given a choice. Hopefully one day our country will have the same common sense.

OMG! :runaway:
And you lived to tell about it?

Yeah, I remember seeing a guy in a little diner in OR with a revolver on his hip.
It startled me for a moment becuase I hadnt seen that before, but it did not concern me. Its just what you are used to.

We are all comfortable with RCMP carrying a sidearm, but until recently it was rare in the UK for cops to carry. And it probably caught a few UK citizens by surprise the first time they encountered a sidearm.

Well put, most Canadians would near sh!t themselves if they saw this thanks to our Liberal gov't and their propoganda of fear and guns. This poster obviously watches lots of TV

Yup, I became a gun nut back in 1979 while living in Israel. You get used to guns 10 minutes after stepping off the plane. Full auto open carry everywhere will dull your inhibitions very quickly.

I always carry a pistol in Vermont when I go fishing for trout in the back country. It just feels right...

A new XCR may be out of your budget, but have you looked at used ones? You would spend less.

Mason, your avatar made me giggle.

Unfortunaly the used ones around this website cost the same as the new or damn close....

Hey bud welcome to the forum, stick around lots of info on here, and good people aswell. I too would love to be able to carry every day, it's a dream. But I can see what your saying, it would be a bit of a culture shock to see people packin everywhere...

Good luck

Alot of states have had people carrying all along, so its nothing new like it would be here. But another angle to carrying, if one sees a man with a pistol on his hip, he knows without a doubt why its there. He knows what will happen if he tries to pull some stupid stunt like robbery or the pointless beatings our government forces us to live with. The man with the pistol need not say a word or raise an eyebrow, his cards are on the table and that keeps most inline. With effective licensing that filters out would-be criminals and keeps guns on honest, reliable citezens then society levels itself out, and only the truly insane commit crimes. Simple, eh?
