C'mere deer

I can tell you rigth now 100% for sure, that baiting all big game in BC is legal, with the exception of bears.

I looked into this a few years ago, as this came up on Huntingbc.ca

I read the Wildlife Act top to bottom 3 times, and contacted 2 CO's in different regions.

Only thing that comes close is that you may not *feed* dangerous game such as wolves, cougars etc. But you can use bait for the purpose of attracting them and killing them.

I guess that was just one of those things that I always too for granted, that it was illegal to bait, and never bothered to look it up.
A long time ago I hunted more with members of the BC game department, than any other hunters, and I think this thought of mine came from away back then.
It is strange how they so explicitly describe what bait is, in the current regulations, and they certainly describe material that would attract the deer family.

A person should attempt to verify their information before passing it off as fact. And I would never tell someone that what they are doing or are planning to do is illegal without being 100% sure.

I have it on good authority that it will only work if you dress head to to in Break-up(with scent loc),drink bud and hunt from heated stands while watching the NFL on your portable flat screen.

I talked to a couple guys today and they say it works they use the spray not the powder it seems everyone I talk to who has success with C'mere Deer used the spray liquid.........

I'm going out to get my trail cam after a week on monday I put out C'mere deer powder, Deercain concentrate mixed with water, Buck Jam and good old fashion Beef feed with molasis......I will let you know what I find.

I have herd that the beef feed and molasses works very well, most hunters around here use apples, I'm just looking for something that's not so heavy walking to stand

well your going to want to put the bait out before you actually hunt. The thing is you want the deer frequenting the bait they will make it a habit.

My two bait sites are about 10-15ft off of two different heavily worn deer trails one is on one side of the property going to a bedding area and the other is on a trail that goes to a natural water spring. Deer visit these spots everyday sometimes 2-3 times a day. What you want the bait to do is make them stop for a min or two on their trip so you can get a shot.

thats just my theory

I wasnt' around back then , so I sure don't know about regs back then, but there hasnt' been any rule agianst baiting for my time.

Frankly, I don't even know why bear baiting is illegal in BC. Only reason I can think of is that in many areas, it may draw in a grizzly, and since grizzlies are on LEH, you may find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, siting there wit no grizz tag, and a grizz interested in YOU!!:runaway:

I've talked to many BC bear hunters, and few of them are interested in baiting, anyway. Mostly the Ontario transplants are, until they see how much fun spot and stalk bear hunting is...

Bear baiting- should it be legal in BC? Sure. Would I do it? Naw, too much work.:p

Looks like you've got a two part thread going. :D
that's normal in the hunting sections, sometimes it's more than two threads in one.
Glad to see your tests, please post the results for others to see.

As to part two of the thread, I see nothing in our Ontario regs forbidding bait on deer either. There is however, a reg forbidding interference with bait used for hunting or trapping.

ok so I went and got my trail cam the other day and it was pointed to high. I had proped it with a stick to point at the feed but I guess the stick slipped out so no pics of what the deer ate.

When I was getting the cam I noticed the grounds where I spread the C'mere deer was dug up and all the leaves and grass were gone. Where I spread the deer cain it was the same but there were some huge hoof marks from them digging the ground. The grain was gone again right down to the dirt.

I managed to get 2 does,1 fawn, 2 raccoons and 1 bat on film

I'm going out tomorrow with the cameras this time one will be on my bedding area feed site and the other will be near my buck trail going to the watering hole. I will be turning up the quality as I now have 1gig SD cards to use and I will be turning on the video feature during the day instead of taking still pic's.

There are so many attractants on the market, I'm going to try Deer Sense, smoking "incense" type deer lures. They have them for Moose and Bear as well.

the powder sucks and yes I have.....

I have had better luck with corn, mixed grain and beef feed with molasis.....the only attractant that has seemed to work for me has been deer cain the ground where I spread it is all tore up and turning into a nice hole.
