What's the deal with the mags? I got told cmmg mags are part of the pistol rimfire screwover and have to be pinned like the the HK 22 clones, but colt pattern 22lr mags are free to be unpinned? I only ask because I have 9 pinned to 5 cmmg mags.

Not by us. You got told wrong. The CMMG mags are good to go as sold.
