CMMG ARC-22 Conversion Kit -- Worth having? Good experiences?

I'm considering the CMMG ARC-22 Conversion Kit, but I'd like to hear from people who have one...whether they work well, any negative considerations, etc. If they run well, they would sure pay for themselves in a hurry...

I have one and its awesome!

Make sure you get the SS version.

I hear of feeding issues but mine and mags run 100%. It feeds mini mags and Federal bulk HP. I have not used anything else. it can NOT use stingers.


It is a lot of fun and I use it often because I cant stand the noise of a .223. It can be installed in seconds and you can keep your AR, ergonomics and optics.


Optics is an issue though as it has different point of aim and not just lower. I use a 1-6 scope with quick adjust turrets and can just dial them a few clicks and its spot on after I change to .22. you can use 30 round magazines :)


Take in mind that it is not as accurate as a .22 gun since the twist in an AR is wrong for a .22.


I also hear that they are hard on the hammer and may lead to early breakage. I am not sure how much of an issue that really is. Unless you have a combat gun it doesnt matter if you put a new hammer in every few thousand rounds.
 
About every 100rds I put a mag of 223 through to blow out lead and wax residue from the gas block and tube. If continuous 22lr use is done without this you risk gas block and tube replacement after too much buildup. I have reliability that rivals the best 22 semi rifles. Pleasant, quiet, cheap AR practice. Worth it's weight in gold.

I have the SS version and use it for 3 gun practice. I have well over 10,000 rounds through mine and I don't recall ever having a stoppage. I have run 500 rounds through it in a single range outing a couple of times and still am using my original gas tube and have not noted any significant lead/wax build up in the gun.

However, my AR is 1/8 twist and it is in no way what I would call "accurate" with any of the 22LR ammo I have used in the conversion. I generally see 4-5 inch groups at 50 yds. If I was looking for better accuracy than that, I would look to a dedicate upper with 1/12 twist and the correct bore dia.

I think at this point you are better off just getting a whole .22 AR. Even with a more suitable barrel you still have to deal with the chamber adapter with the CMMG kit. The .22 sets are also supposed to be hard on hammers
