CMMG conversion

You need to shoot 223 or 5.56 immediately after your done shooting .22lr to clean out the gas tube or you will run into problems. I've read this numerous times on a number of different AR forums as well as this one. Maybe you should ask about shooting 223 frangible ammo at your range but it does cost more than regular 223.

After doing a bit of poking around, it looks like plate is only good to 1500 fps. You are probably SOL for finding plated 223 factory ammo. I have your delema only in a different way. I belong to two clubs. One is pistol, 22 rimfire and BP only. The other offers FB. I got the CMMG to shoot at the pistol/22/BP range, and hence cannot run any 223 thru after shooting 22lr at that range.

Hmmmm now what to do?

spray the gas tube and other parts with carbon solvent before you pack up and when you get home all the built up carbon should be loosened up and ready for a wipe this is what i do every time since my gf loves to shoot a brick of .22lr out of my AR a trip:ar15:

Can you suggest a carbon solvent to use? And, what spray directly into the tube from the breech end?

So it's really not an issue between jacketed or lead, eithe way it's going to shoot dirty? I was curious about frangible myself, but I couldn't find a source. Does anyone know of any retailers?

Since it looks like gnmontey and me are in similar boats, I'm definately interested to see what else you guys have to add for cleaning and anything related to frangible 223.

Further to the original issue. This is the hammer, spring, and pin as pulled from the CQ311. Note the spring flats, missing spring arm and the fact that the pin has detents on the ends only.

The Norc hammer spring would not fit the replacement hammer so I had no choice but to use a replacement spring. Things went sideways when I didn't use the replacement pin.

Anyone know if the latest batch of Norcs use the same arrangement? Something to consider if getting a CMMG as the knotched hammer would not fire the CMMG. Had to replace it with a flat face hammer.
