Thought this was very interesting. The Civilian Marksmanship Program in the USA is going to release 8,000 WWI & WWII vintage 1911/1911A1's to the civilian market.

Article with very cool pics in American Rifleman:

Info from CMP on private purchase:

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/1911-information/

Apparently, only one purchase per person.

This is very cool for our fellow 1911/1911A1 officiandos south of the border, though!

From all I've seen way overpriced for what is mostly wore out and mismatched guns. But still kinda cool

Think of the money the CF would make selling off the Browning High Powers

I would LOVE to get my hands on the one I was issued on my last tour!!!!!!!

It was almost brand new and it shot A W E S O M E!!!!!!

Lots of naysayers had their eyebrows high up on their heads when I was blasting through all the free ammo I could get my hands on.

Most were junk, few were not!!!

CMP (formally the DCM) used to sell surplus guns at reasonable prices.

I bought a real nice M1 Garand (all IHC parts) for $165.00 USD...check the prices now!
