CNC fluting and engraving. Now with vid

Just finished the 4th axis for my cnc mill.

First test on some aluminium round bar.

Fluting.

Barrel engraving.

The letters are sized for a 1.25 diameter and were engraved an a .7 diameter so they look a little short. So far so good.

I will be fluting a Rem 700 bolt and barrel soon. I will try and get some action shots up.

nice...I've engraved on our CNC mill and helically milled flutes, but I'll be damned if I can get MasterCam to program engraving on a round surface....what's your secret?..maybe I need SolidWorks?

I have a 62 cal jager barrel "flintlock rifle" that I would love to have my family name done on the upper flat in Germanic script.

These are the 2 bolts I've had fluted. If you could do something like this, I'm sure you'd have a ton of work coming your way.
I know of people who'd like to have bolts fluted like the bottom one.

That looks pretty sharp. Did you just run your cutter off center with a helical move to do that?

We need some pics of your setup! I'm in the process of converting a manual mill to CNC, not for production work but just hobby stuff.

The cutter was on center with a helical move. I will get some picks maybe today of the mill in action.

My mill was originally a CNC. I removed all of the old control except the stepper motors. I run it with a PC now. If you have any questions hellpit feel free to ask.

What version of Mastercam are you using?

Use the 3D Project toolpath. You project a 2D path over a curved surface.
